December 2016 Volume 41 Issue 12 The President s Corner Finally, we've received some much needed rain. December is here (the Christmas Holidays are just around the corner) and Corvair Atlanta has a new President. For those who were not able to attend the November Election Meeting, Dan Terry agreed to serve as President and was elected by unanimous vote. Many thanks to Dan agreeing to server in this role, and to Lanny Milbrandt for his efforts on the Nominating Committee. In addition to a new President we have new members on the Board of s. Please see the November Meeting Minutes for additional details. The Corvair Atlanta Chrismas Dinner will again be at the Olde Ivy Clubhouse near Smyrna on Sunday, 11-December-2016. It's just off South Atlanta Road, very near the Exit 16 exchange for I-285. Everyone seems to enjoy the "Corvair White Elephant" event and we are asking members to bring a wrapped gift, Corvair related if possible, to the Dinner. Also, we are asking members to bring an un-wrapped toy to be donated to the "Toys-for-Tots" Christmas program, which has provided toys for many years, to children less fortunate than ourselves. For purposes of catering preparation the Clubhouse should be open by 10:00 a.m. For members please, feel free to show up anytime between 10:00 am and noon. The Christmas meals is to be served around 1:00 p.m. Parking is somewhat limited at Olde Ivy, but if you drive your Corvair and get there early enough there should be parking next to the Clubhouse. I'll try to stay as close to the gate as possible (if not, try the gate code #1211 or #1112). Please RSVP to Jeannette Rudolph by 05-December-2016 if you plan to attend. (Continued on Page 4) CAI Members, As required in our CAI By-Laws, This is your December 2016 Notice. Your 2017 Membership Dues are Due by December 31, 2016. Meeting Minutes Secretary Notes from the November 19th Corvair Atlanta, Inc. meeting: The meeting was called to order by President Tom Constantine. We thank Al and Paula Hilderbrand for hosting the meeting. They provided a terrific cold cut sandwich lunch complete with all the fixings. The cookies were delicious as well as the special marshmallow, nut and jello dessert made by Paula. On top of all that Al and Paula honored our President Tom with a personal cake saying "Thank You" for your serving us as President this year. John O'Harra will serve as our Newsletter Editor until December. We thank John very much for the years of Newsletter editing that you have given to the Club. We need someone to volunteer to be our Newsletter Editor. It is one of the most important positions needed for the survival of our Club. Please let us know if you are interested in serving in this position. It was decided that four Corvair Clubs will be the host clubs for Springfest next year, splitting the final profit from the event four ways. The clubs are Corvair Atlanta, Inc., Heart of Georgia, Vulcans and Queen City in Charlotte. It was mentioned that the Indian Springs Picnic was a success with very good attendance. The convention in Hilton Head was good except the debris from the recent storm caused longer walks to the different groups. James Law's Rampside won the Crescent Award at Hilton Head. Congratulations James! Tom Rabb mentioned that if anyone needed to have an excellent job done at matching car paint colors, the company to contact is Tower Paint Company in Wisconsin. Our Christmas Party will be where it was last year at the Old Ivy Clubhouse, 4735 Ivy Ridge Road SE, Smyrna on Saturday December 11th. Come at 12 noon and dinner is at 1 PM. We'll have ham, fried chicken, mashed potatoes, green beans, cake and more. Each person attending needs to bring a white elephant gift, approximate value of $15 minimum and an unwrapped TOYS For TOTS to be delivered to the Salvation Army. Please RSVP Jeannette Rudolph by December 5th. The second Saturday in January will be our planning meeting for Springfest. It will be at Clay Grant's home. Thank you Clay for hosting! One issue is we need someone to run the Auto Cross at Springfest. There is also a safety issue with crossing the street from one parking lot to the other. This should be discussed more to determine how we can comply with the state law. One solution is to hire a policeman to direct traffic. Cost would run about $200 for that. The following officers for the 2017 year were elected by unanimous vote: Dan Terri- President Robert Burkinbine - Vice President Secretary - Nolan Grant (Continued on Page 4) 3

Calendars Recurring Events Date / Time First Sunday of each month 8am-11am Saturdays: March 7, April 4, May 9, June 6, July 4, August 1, September 5, October 3, November 7, December 5 Vendor set-up 7am, gates open to the public at 8:30 Description Caffine and Octane Perimeter Mall 4400 Ashford-Dunwoody Rd Dunwoody, GA 30046 http://www.caffeineandoctane.com/ North East Georgia Swap Meet Atlanta Dragway Commerce, GA http://georgiaswapmeet.com/ Scheduled Events Date / Time Description President s Corner (continued) Sincere thanks to John O'Harra for severing as Editor of the Connecting Rod for several years. Having an informative newsletter is vital to the Club, and as John is stepping down we really need a member, or members, to fill this role. I believe in some Corvair Clubs a husband and wife team fill the role of newsletter Editor and, in those cases, it seems to work well. It's important to remember that as member we can, and should, provide material to the Editor for the Connecting Rod. Admittedly, I have failed often (more times than I can count) to get John a few words for the "President's Corner" in time for the Connecting Rod, so I don't have much "room to talk". Regardless, the Editor's role is not really to generate all the content. If the appropriate credit is given and permission granted, we should be able to "borrow" relative content from other Clubs, still we need to get articles submitted by our members. Hope to see everyone on the 11th, but for those who cannot attend. Happy Holiday and Best Wishes for the New Year! - Tom 4

Meeting Minutes (continued) Board of s- Jack Allison, Kelly Parker and Ted Fahrenthold. August - Wayne Whitmire's house September - Indian Springs Picnic October - No Meeting due to State Fair in Perry and Maggie Valley Corvair event November - TBD December - Christmas Dinner We want to thank Lanny Milbrandt for being the Chairman of this year's nominating committee.
