Welcome to Issue 51 of the FSF fan embassy Wales information booklet. We are at the start of a brand new tournament, the Nations league, which will offer Wales another opportunity to qualify for UEFA finals but also contribute towards our UEFA rankings, so a very important new event which also means less meaningless Friendlies will be played in favour of competitive fixtures. We start this new adventure with an away trip to old rivals Denmark, the game being hosted in Aarhus before travelling to Ireland later in the year, we also play both Nations at home. Top Tip Keep a copy of your passport and a list of important phone numbers in a place that can be easily accessed if needed. A good idea would be to scan your passport and e mail it to yourself. Copenhagen Airport 4 Copenhagen Airport, Kastrup is the main international airport serving the entire Zealand, Oresund Region, and a large part of southern Sweden. It is the largest airport in the Nordic countries with 29 million passengers in 2016 and one of the oldest international airports in Europe. It is the thirdbusiest airport in Northern Europe, and by far the busiest for international travel in Scandinavia. The airport is located on the island of Amager, just five miles south of Copenhagen city centre, and 15 miles west of the Swedish city of Malmo of via the Oresund Bridge. Copenhagen Airport (CPH) is considered by many to be the finest airport in Europe and has excellent facilities including many duty-free shops and refreshment outlets associated with an airport of its size. There are several airport information and transfer desks, and service centres located throughout the airport. The two transfer centres are in Terminal 3 and can handle re-bookings, missed flights and cancellations. The service information areas are in the Transit Hall and terminals 2 and 3, both situated next to security check-in. These information desks can handle enquiries regarding airport services, flight information and much more. There are several coffee shops, snack bars and casual dining options located throughout the three terminals. There are also three restaurants: a steak restaurant located in the Transit Hall; a seafood bar; and an Italian restaurant. There are also fast-food outlets including McDonalds and Burger King. Danske Bank offers a full range of banking services including currency exchange. There are two branches - one located in Terminal 2 and the other in the Transit Hall. ATM machines are also available. Disabled passengers have been carefully considered. There are automatic opening doors, wheelchair ramps and disabled toilets as well as a passenger escort service in operation.
Copenhagen airport has a modern train station located outside Terminal 3 and there are taxi ranks and regular bus services that go to most parts of the city and destinations farther afield. There are several bus services managed by different operators which run to different parts of the city. Metro If you want to go to central stations like Kongens Nytorv or Nørreport, you should get on the metro. The metro is located right above terminal 3. All the trains go in the same direction from the airport (M2 to Vanløse Station), so you do not have to worry about getting on the wrong train. The trains run with 4-6 minutes intervals during the day and evening. During the night the train runs every 15-20 minutes. It will take you 13 minutes to get to Nørreport Station (hub in city centre) from the airport. Tickets can be bought at the metro station and at the DSB ticket sales counter in terminal 3. Please note that the machines only accept coins and all major credit cards, not notes. Cost 38 DK ( 4-5) 3 zones. Train If you want to go to Copenhagen Central Station, the train is your best option. The train station is located by terminal 3. You can take a free shuttle bus from terminal 1 to terminal 3, which will take 5 minutes. The trains run every 10 minutes during the day and will get you to Copenhagen Central Station in about 13 minutes. During the night the trains run 1-3 times an hour. Cost 38 DK, 3 Zones, ( 4-5). Bus Bus 5A will take you directly to Copenhagen Central Station, City Hall Square, Nørreport and other stations. It takes about 30-35 minutes from the airport to the Central Station. Taxi Taxis can pick up passengers outside terminal 1 and 3 and will get you to downtown Copenhagen in about 20 minutes depending on traffic. It will cost approximately DKK 250-300. (approx. 30-35).
Copenhagen 6 Travelling the world following Wales is an experience that more and more fans are discovering but it can be expensive at times and a visit to Scandinavia and Copenhagen is one of those times. It is a fantastic city, often voted the happiest in Europe, it has excellent public transport, health care, culture, history and a wealth of other attractions but for us football fans it won t be cheap. For a number of years, Copenhagen has ranked high in international surveys for its quality of life. Its stable economy together with its education services and level of social safety make it attractive for locals and visitors alike Many Welsh fans are expected to make this trip though, some will be without tickets due to the low allocation for the game in Aarhus but the vast majority will spend some time in Copenhagen. The city has a municipal population of just over 600,000 but the region/urban population is 1.3 million. Originally a Viking fishing village established in the 10th century in the vicinity of what is now Gammel Strand, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. Copenhagen is home to the FC København and Brøndby football clubs and it is worth a visit to these stadiums during your time here. Since the summer of 2000, Copenhagen and the Swedish city of Malmö have been connected by the Øresund Bridge, which carries rail and road traffic. As a result, Copenhagen has become the centre of a larger metropolitan area spanning both nations.
When traveling in Denmark from Copenhagen to Aarhus (and from Aarhus to Copenhagen), travellers have a good selection of different transportation options. However, each option has its own pros and cons. Flying between Copenhagen and Aarhus only takes about 45 minutes and there are several direct flights daily, offered by SAS and others. This is a good option mainly for travellers pressed for time. Otherwise, the disadvantages are the price tag and that there s not much to look at during the trip. Trains leave either city every 30 to 45 minutes and the train ride is scenic and relaxing. You can get flexible train tickets and compare prices at RailEurope.com The Abildskou bus line 888 connects Copenhagen and Aarhus daily. It s comparatively inexpensive for an adult bus ticket, paid directly to the bus driver. The Copenhagen- Aarhus trip takes about three hours. Driving between Copenhagen and Aarhus is suitable if you have about three hours of time for the 300 kilometres (185 miles) distance. There are two routes you can take: The easy option includes a toll road and the bridge across Storebælt ( 35-40). From Copenhagen, take the E20 west until you hit the E45. Go north on the E45 to Aarhus. Alternatively, you can avoid the toll route and take a car ferry part of the way ( 35-50). This way just go northwest on road 21 to Sjaellands-Odde and take the Mols Line ferry to Aarhus from there. Aarhus Airport 8 In contrast to Copenhagen, Aarhus is a much smaller airport with far less connections from the UK, some Welsh fans will prefer to fly here to save on the road travel and time it takes from the capital. The city is about one hour away from the airport by bus and it will cost you 115 DK about 14 one way. A taxi rank is right outside the airport but expect to pay around 650 about 75 for a ride into the city centre. The airport is easy for transfers and transit through it is very quick. There are ample amenities there including shops, ATM, restaurants All Restaurant and café s in Aarhus Airport are operated by SSP Denmark A / S. The restaurant, located on the 1st floor overlooking the runways, serve a varied and healthy range of sandwiches, sandwiches, fresh salads and hot food. In the departure hall café you can buy lighter dishes such as breakfast, delicious sandwiches, fresh salads and cake alongside a variety of coffee types. There is FREE WI FI at the airport You choose the The Cloud network at the airport. Then follow the easy instructions where all you need is to agree to terms - no sign up needed. In Aarhus Airport smoking is permitted only in The Garden of Mythology - a limited outdoor area directly adjacent to the departure hall (after passing the security check). Smoking - neither traditional smoking nor e-cigarettes - is allowed indoors in Aarhus Airport or at the aircraft s pitches. In the case of smoking outside the terminal building - in the parking areas - signage with No smoking must be respected.
Aarhus is the second-largest city in Denmark. The inner urban area contains 273,077 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2018) and the municipal population is 340,421. Aarhus is one the most exciting cities in Europe right now and along with the surrounding area was last year s European Capital of Culture so you re sure to find an abundance of cultural events, things to do, and a youthful, yet laidback atmosphere. The beach, harbour, and forest are all within walking distance of the centre, but you could always hire a bike if you re feeling fit. Aarhus is home to some of Denmark s most popular attractions including the modern art museum (The Old Town Museum). and the newly restored Moesgård Museum. For those seeking some fun you must visit the beautiful forest of Marselisborg, close to Aarhus where you will find Tivoli Friheden, an amusement park for people of all ages. Try the fast-moving rollercoasters, free fall from the Sky- Tower, 5D-cinemagic, the Ferris Wheel and so much more. Enjoy a traditional burger menu or All-You-Can-Eat buffet at one of Tivoli Frihedens many eateries after a long day of fun. During our time in the City Wales fans can enjoy the Aarhus Festival one of the largest cultural events in Scandinavia and showcases both local, national and international artists. Aarhus Festival is highly esteemed and recognized both in Denmark and abroad. The festival makes the city vibrant with life, energy and creativity. With great food and music. For 10 days every street and alley, club, stage, gallery and museum swarm with art and entertainment where renowned traditions flourish side by side with the new and unexpected. It runs from Friday 31st August until Sunday September 9th with something for everyone and those on a budget can get a box of 30 Carlsberg in the supermarkets for 12 although we are not encouraging you to get too drunk. Anji Beikes a resident of Aarhus kindly sent the following advice about pubs Welsh fans could use to watch the football if they have no tickets. The four pubs she recommends are The Golden Lion, Sherlock Holmes (both British style), Tir Na Noq and Waxies (both Irish) - They are all placed in Frederiksgade very central in Aarhus and not to far from the stadion. They are used to football fans. Prices are reasonable. Frederiksgade, together with Stor Torv, Lille Torv and St. Clemens Stræde are part of Strøget in Aarhus, where you will find many specialty shops, restaurants and pubs. This area is recommended for Welsh fans. A Taste of something far more Danish is readily available in this area of the city and Oops - Bar is a good place to go and it stays open until 3 pm. Die Kleine Bierstube is another good pub that is well worth the visit but explore the area and you will come across plenty of places to eat and drink and have a good time, it can be busy at times with students and of course it is AARHUS FESTIVAL week. 9 Aarhus
Public Transport 10 Both cities have excellent public transport systems but we will start with Copenhagen where you have a choice of Tickets for the metro, bus and train services which are integrated in the entire Greater Copenhagen area, and a metro ticket is valid on the buses and trains as well. Always buy a ticket before boarding the train or metro. You can buy your ticket in ticket machines, which accept Danish cash and the most common credit cards, or 7 Eleven kiosks at the train and metro stations. In Copenhagen Airport arrival hall and at Copenhagen Central Station there is a DSB ticket office as well as ticket machines. Please note that not all ticket types/travel cards are for sale via machines. Onboard the buses in Copenhagen, you also have the possibility to buy your ticket from the driver, if you bring small change. The same ticket can be used in the metro, bus, train and harbour bus. Always have your ticket with you in case a conductor wants to see it. Travelling without a valid ticket will result in a fine of up to DKK 750 With a 24-hour ticket you can travel for 24 hours unlimited by bus, train, metro and harbour bus in all the zones of the capital region, including trips to Roskilde, Elsinore or other parts of North Zealand. The 24-hour adult ticket costs DKK 150. ( 17) The City Pass ( our recommendation) gives you unlimited access to buses, trains, metro and harbour buses in zones 1-4, which includes the centre of Copenhagen and to and from the airport. The City Pass is valid for 24, 48, 72 or 120 hours. Starting at 10 (24 hours) 20 (48 hours) 25 ( 72 hours) You can buy your City Pass at the ticket vending machine at all stations and including at the airport. Note Taxis are very expensive in Denmark.
Once you have arrived in Aarhus, everything is within easy walking distance in the city so you can choose to get around on foot, using the free city bikes, the Letbanen light rail, or by bus. The public transport system in Aarhus is efficient. Here are a few tips on the different modes of transport within and outside the city. Buses The easiest way of getting around Central and Greater Aarhus is via city bus. There are two types of buses in Aarhus: city buses and X-buses. If you want to get around inside the city, just look for a yellow bus. Single trip tickets These are available from the bus driver or from a ticket machine when you enter the bus. Please note that the ticket machines only accept coins. Tickets are also available at train stations. This is the least cost-effective method of getting around Aarhus, as a single ticket costs from 20 to 120 DKK, depending on how far you need to go. That is between ( 2.30 and 14) 24-hour ticket Depending on your travel needs, you have the option of choosing a 24-hour ticket, which grants you access to buses and trains in Aarhus. The ticket is valid 24-hours from the moment you buy it and you can bring children along - free of charge if they are under the age of 12. You can buy the ticket at Aarhus Customer Service located at Aarhus Bus station (Aarhus Rutebilstation) or when you enter the bus. The ticket costs 160 DKK for adults about 18.

Health You should get a free European Health Insurance Card EHIC before leaving the UK. The EHIC isn t a substitute for medical and travel insurance, but it entitles you to state provided medical treatment that may become necessary during your trip. Any treatment provided is on the same terms as Danish nationals. If you don t have your EHIC with you or you ve lost it, you can call the Department of Health Overseas Healthcare Team (+44 191 218 1999) to get a Provisional Replacement Certificate. The EHIC won t cover medical repatriation, ongoing medical treatment or non-urgent treatment, so you should make sure you have adequate travel insurance and accessible funds to cover the cost of any medical treatment and repatriation. Terrorism Terrorists are likely to try to carry out attacks in Denmark. Attacks could be indiscriminate including in places frequented by foreigners. You should remain vigilant and follow the advice of local authorities. There were over 850,000 overnight stays in Denmark by British tourists in 2017. Most visits are trouble-free. However petty crime such as pickpocketing exists, particularly in larger cities. If you need to contact the emergency services call 112. Road Travel When crossing from Denmark to Sweden various forms of ID are accepted, but must include a photograph, the holders full name, social security number or date of birth, holders signature, a stated validity and information on the issuing authority. Children under 18 accompanied by an adult with the appropriate ID are not required to carry ID themselves. Currency The currency in Denmark is the Danish Krone, not the Euro. Exchange rate in August was 1 = 8.5 DK Local laws and customs Don t get involved with drugs of any kind. Although Denmark is generally a liberal society, drug use is illegal and laws are enforced. You will not be treated more leniently than residents. Drug dealers can receive heavy sentences. Anyone found in possession of illegal drugs deemed to be for personal consumption will often receive a police fine or a short prison sentence. From 1 August 2018, it s illegal in Denmark to wear in a public place any clothing which conceals the face. Failure to comply with this law is punishable by a fine of DKK1000 (around 120). The fine can increase for repeat offenders. The law applies to both residents and visitors. Homosexuality is legal and Danish law allows same sex marriages. Entry requirements Your passport should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay; you don t need any additional period of validity on your passport beyond this. Visas You don t need a visa to enter Denmark. As a British passport holder you can stay as a visitor for up to 3 months. For longer stays, you should apply for a residence permit. Travel Safely The FCO travel advice helps you make your own decisions about foreign travel. Your safety is our main concern, but we can t provide tailored advice for individual trips. If you re concerned about whether or not it s safe for you to travel, you should read the travel advice for the country or territory you re travelling to, together with information from other sources you ve identified, before making your own decision on whether to travel. Only you can decide whether it s safe for you to travel. When we judge the level of risk to British nationals in a particular place has become unacceptably high, we ll state on the travel advice page for that country or territory that we advise against all or all but essential travel. Denmark is generally deemed a safe country to visit.
British Embassy Information 14 Please contact us at the FSF if possible before seeking Embassy assistance, we will be able to guide you through the process. FSF Cymru Help line number is + 447905 861848 What to do if your British Passport is lost or stolen whilst in Denmark It is vital you report a lost or stolen passport as soon as possible to the local police and to the British Embassy even if you don t want to replace your passport immediately. This will reduce the risk of someone using your passport or your identity. When you report the loss or theft to the Consulate. They will record the loss or theft of your passport and forward the information to Identity and Passport Service. The IPS will then cancel your passport to reduce the risk of someone else using your identity. Once you report your passport as lost or stolen, it is electronically cancelled. If you find it, you will not be able to use it as a proof of identity, nationality, or for any other legal purpose. You must not use it as a means of identification as this may be detected as a potentially fraudulent act. You will also not be able to use it for travel. Doing so may cause the passport to be impounded by the Borders and Immigration Authority at UK ports or airports. If travelling overseas, you could face deportation or arrest. If your passport is lost or stolen the British Consulate in Copenhagen can issue an emergency travel document that will get you home at a cost of 100, non refundable. Please contact the FSF Cymru help line if you need assistance, we have direct contact with the consulate. It can be very expensive paying for an emergency travel document and then having to pay for a new passport back in the UK. On arrival in Denmark ensure your passport is always safe and secure.
Emergency Travel Document An emergency travel document allows you to leave the country you re in and travel to your destination via a maximum of 5 countries. The emergency travel document can also cover a return journey if you re resident in the country you re applying from. An emergency travel document doesn t guarantee entry to every country. You may also need a visa. Check with the embassy or consulate of the country or countries you re intending to travel to or through. You must present: 1 identical recent photograph of yourself - make sure they meet the rules for passport photo or your application will be delayed details of your intended travel plans - where and when you intend to travel (including countries you will travel through) a completed application form a police report if your passport has been lost or stolen You will have to pay a fee, equivalent to 100. Embassy or consulate staff will tell you how much this is in local currency when you apply. Getting your emergency travel document The embassy or consulate staff will check that you re eligible for an emergency travel document. If you re not, they will tell you why. Please contact FSF Cymru we will try to assist with this process You may get the document on the day you apply if your circumstances are straightforward. If your circumstances are more complex, it can take longer. You may need to change your travel plans. Using your emergency travel document The emergency travel document will only be valid for the journey that you specified when you applied and for a specific period of time. This will be shown on the document. Your existing British passport will be cancelled in most cases. Immigration authorities may keep your emergency travel document when you arrive at your destination. You will need to get a replacement passport when back in the UK if you intend doing anymore travelling and pay the full costs, any fees that you paid for an emergency travel document will not be taken into account.
Ceres Park Stadium 16 The stadium was originally built in 1920 but has seen many changes since and major renovation in both 1993 and 2001 when new stands were constructed. It is the home stadium of AGF Aarhus the pitch has a grass surface and there is an athletic track around it.the capacity has since been reduced from just over 20,000 to 19,433 due to expansion of the VIP areas. There is also an adjoining Handball arena that holds over 4,000 spectators. International football has been played at this stadium on numerous occasions but the vast majority of Denmark home games have been played at the Parken stadium Copenhagen. Football is the national sport of Denmark and the most popular sport played there. Currently there are nearly 300,000 players and 1,614 clubs registered with the Danish Football Association. Note Away fans are usually housed within sections D5 and D6 which are essentially located in the north-east corner of the ground. Combined these sections can accommodate up to 1,306 visiting supporters per match. How to get to Ceres Park Ceres Park is located towards the south of the city of Aarhus at just over 2 miles from the main railway station and city centre. The walk to the stadium will take about 25 minutes. Bus from City centre Bus 11 take the bus from the Park Allé in the direction of Søholm and get off at the Jyllands Allé / Vilhelms Bechs Vej. The journey only takes 7 minutes. Alternatives are bus 16 and 18, which can both be taken just south of the rail station at the MP Bruunsgade. Take bus 16 in the direction of Holme Syd or bus 18 toward Moesgård Museum and get off at the same stop as bus 11. Taxis Taxi from city centre train station to stadium will cost approximately 12 or 100 Danish Krone and you can normally pay by cash or credit card.
