In support of the proposed amendment, reference was made to correspondence received at the August 17, 1998, Public Hearing, in which six groups involved in the "feather" industry had indicated support of reducing poultry barn setbacks to 15 m, similar to surrounding municipalities. It was noted that an increase to the minimum quotas necessitated larger operations and that technological enhancements had improved the handling of waste. One member of Council commented that the Agricultural Select Committee had made the recommendation for a 20 m setback without seeking input from the affected industry, and there was a suggestion that the 15 m setback would assist Abbotsford's agricultural industry remain competitive.
