2 President s resident s Cornerorner BY LEIGH SWORTS April 2010 XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX 2010 April MUG UPDATE Is it just me or did March fly by? Maybe it was all of the great weather that we had here in Buffalo NY. It was great to go to the Paddock Chevrolet Golf Dome s The Grill Restaurant for our March meeting. It was just the right location to start thinking about the continued great weather ahead of us! I want to thank John Templeton and Andrew DeVita from Millenium Technologies for being our guests. Andrew did a great presentation on RFID and he also gave us a nice look and demonstration of the Librestream Onsight products and software. We all got to see firsthand how this device, with software, can be used to avoid costly travel, by utilizing mobile video and VOIP in a single device. WOW! Now it is time to think about our next meeting. We have IBM s Steve Fier coming to cover IBM Announcements on Power 7 and i7. Guess where we are going again? Our April meeting will be held at the Hamburg Fairgrounds Gaming and Raceway! This location is always a hit! And some even like the $5 of free play that comes with the buffet! So hurry up and register for this meeting held on April 22, 2010: Date / Time: April 22, 2010 / 5:30 PM Registration Location: Hamburg Fairgrounds Gaming Club House Speaker: Steven J. Fier IBM POWER Platform Leader Topic : POWER7 & IBM i7 announcements & updates A special note about our April meeting: As per the group s by laws, we hold elections every 2 years. So we will accept any nominations for new officers at the April meeting! We will also hold the elections at that time, so if you have an interest in donating your time and talent, we certainly will want to get your name on the ballot for one of the officer positions. Just an FYI, we are still accepting membership applications! If you haven t already done so, please send in your membership form with your subscription. If you still need a membership form, please email our membership chair, Steve Kait at: skait@gemko.com So! Have you seen our revamped newsletter? Chuck Giambra at Hi Tech Services has done a great job! Who has finished the crossword puzzle???? Let me know what you think of the additions to our news letter and maybe you want to write a column or have something to add! Stay in tune with our website at: www.mugwny.org We will continue to keep it updated with meeting information and other news. I am looking forward to another great MUG season, where I can continue to reach out to our members and host our meetings. The Midrange Users Group (MUG) of WNY
