Equality Targets Everyone at Kingsmeadow School must strive to accept and meet the differing needs and aspirations of all members of the school community, using the human resources and skills available to us all to: 1. Safeguard individuals from all forms of abuse and harassment. We must ensure that victims can be confident of support and, where appropriate redress. We must ensure that aggressors can never claim the excuse of acting out of ignorance. Success Criteria Incidents of aggression and bullying are rare and dealt with effectively and outcome of which are recorded on Behaviour Watch. 2. Establish a school ethos built on mutual trust and respect. We should treat others as we would wish to be treated. We should respect other people, their property and school premises. Success Criteria Students regularly receive merits and praise for their positive attitudes to learning, respect to others, their school campus and their local community. Incidents of disrespectful behaviour are rare and dealt with promptly and effectively and the outcome of which are recorded on Behaviour Watch. 3. Safeguard the rights and freedoms of others. We must actively pursue our aim to help pupils develop personal moral values which respect the values and tolerates differing religious and cultures. Success Criteria Racist and homophobic incidents are extremely rare and dealt with promptly and effectively and the outcome of which are recorded on Behaviour Watch. Students display tolerance, support of and celebrate other cultures/religions through their work. 4. Develop an organisation which maximises pupil opportunity and experience. We must ensure that the curriculum and other activities encourages and supports the opportunity for all. We must ensure that pupils are not excluded from activities because of status or income. Success Criteria All student groups are able to access the curriculum fully and discrete intervention results in specific gaps in student achievement narrowing and in line with the whole school population and national figures. Eg boys, girls, students with SEND and students receiving free school meals.

Malpractice Under exam conditions the use of unauthorised materials, copying or attempting to copy, escaping from supervision or collusion (cheating) is not permitted. Unauthorised materials include: Ø mobile phones Ø ipods or MP3 players Ø food and drink (containers must be free from labels) Ø Tippex or correction fluid Ø Pale coloured gel pens. If a candidate is suspected of malpractice: Ø warn the candidate of the penalties and sanctions an awarding body may impose Ø record what has happened and retain evidence Ø summon help if necessary. Mobile Phones If a mobile phone rings during an exam: Ø find it as quickly as possible, switch it off, and remove it from the exam room Ø allow the exam to continue in the normal way (the exams officer will take any necessary disciplinary action when the exam is over). Don t forget to switch off your own mobile phone (including any pre set alarms) before the start of the exam! Behaviour Management Your role is to maintain the appropriate environment for the exam and to ensure that exams are conducted correctly. Invigilators must: Ø Be vigilant and remain aware of emerging situations. Ø Explain why you need to address a situation. Ø Remain calm and professional at all times; do not raise your voice. Ø Sympathise as appropriate, but be firm. Ø Reinforce the rules JCQ warning notices. Ø Summon help as necessary. What Is An Invigilator? As an invigilator you will: Ø ensure all candidates have an equal opportunity to do well Ø ensure exam security before, during and after the exam Ø prevent possible candidate malpractice Ø prevent possible administration failures. Ø In a written exam, there must be at least one invigilator for every 30 candidates at all times. Ø In a practical exam or on screen test, there must be at least one invigilator for every 15 candidates at all times. Exam Room Set Up Requirements Ø Displays and posters removed or covered. Ø Desks must be at least 1.25 m apart.
Ø Seating plans identifying extra time candidates. Ø Seating place cards. Ø Clocks must be clearly visible and synchronised. Ø Board with centre number and start and finish times displayed. Ø Warning notices and mobile phone posters must be displayed. Ø Erratum notices/special announcements on display. Ø Notice to candidates must be in a prominent place outside the exam room. Ø Registers/absence record available. Ø Incident log available. Ø Invigilation record available. Ø Invigilator s checklist available (see below). Ø JCQ ICE regulations and awarding body subject specific instructions. Starting The Exam Checklist Ø Direct candidates to the instructions provided on the exam question papers. Ø Ask candidates to check they have the right paper. Ø Tell candidates to fill in all the details on the front of question papers/answer booklets. Ø Advise candidates of the centre s evacuation procedures (see page 7). Ø Remind candidates of when they can leave the exam room. Ø Read the JCQ starting announcement (or centre specific announcement). Ø Complete the attendance register in pencil in case of late arrivals. Ø Arrange for absentees to be contacted. Ø Write start and finish times clearly on the board provided, including extra time allowances. Ø Complete the invigilator record as necessary. Entering The Exam Room Ø The exam is in progress as soon as candidates enter the room! Ø Coats and bags are to be deposited in the cupboard at the back of the exam hall Ø Take the attendance register. Using the seating plan provided, seat candidates by candidate number in a snake pattern. Ø The following items are not permitted in the exam room: mobile phones ipods or MP3 players food and drink (containers must be free from labels) Tipex or correction fluid Pale coloured gel pens. Ø Candidates must have clear plastic pencil cases.
Ø Know what to do when a candidate is absent. JCQ Inspection Ø Every centre will receive a visit from a JCQ inspector during one of its exam series. Ø Familiarise yourself with the JCQ ICE regulations. Ø Be confident that you can identify all candidates. Ø Be confident that you are maintaining the integrity of the exam at all times. Ø Challenge anyone who enters the exam room. Ø Do not view the inspector as an enemy they should be seen as a professional colleague! Before The Exam Starts Ø There may be more than one exam happening at the same time. Ø Check that you have the correct exam question papers and materials these must be kept secure. Ø If a candidate has been identified as requiring a modified question paper, check that the paper has been provided. Ø Double check that the number of invigilators allocated is adequate for the expected number of candidates. Ø Check your means of summoning assistance. Walkie Talkie to be provided for lone invigilators. Once Candidates Are Seated Remind candidates that: Ø they are under exam conditions, Ø mobile phones must be switched off and handed in, Ø open and hand out exam papers according to the exam cards, Ø where exam papers are named, distribute to the correct candidates, Ø distribute the answer booklets and any other stationery required. During The Exam Ø Invigilators must not talk amongst themselves except to convey important information. Ø Respond as quickly as possible when a candidate raises their hand for help. Ø Only answer questions about the rubric on the front of the exam paper. Ø Offer no advice to the candidate check with the exams officer if you are unsure. Ø Look out for cheating and malpractice, or candidates who may not feel well. Ø Record every event in a log. Collecting Scripts Ø Candidates cannot leave the exam room until scripts have been collected no exam papers are to leave the exam room.
Ø Collect scripts in order of the attendance register keeping tiers and options separate as necessary. Ø Collect any unused stationary. Ø Do not leave the scripts unattended at any time. Ø Do not read or allow anyone else to read candidates scripts. Ø Dismiss candidates row by row, in silence. Ø Keep clash candidates with you and under supervision. Ø Hand over the scripts to the nominated person for dispatch. Summary Ø Always: remain calm consider the security of the exam think of the implications for the candidates keep a written record who/what/when maintain the required invigilator: candidate ratio at all times. Never assume! If in doubt, always consult the exams officer. Evacuation procedures Ø Stop candidates from writing. Ø Make a note of the time the exam was stopped. Ø Collect the attendance register. Ø Advise candidates to leave all papers, scripts and belongings in the room and to leave the room calmly in silence candidates must not talk to each other. Ø Await further instructions. Ø Remember health and safety is paramount. Examinations Access Statement As far as is reasonably practicable, Kingsmeadow School s examinations department will ensure: Ø Lighting is appropriate for candidates Ø Premises will meet legal and Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) requirements Ø Adapted facilities are provided as necessary Ø The needs of all students will be considered in the event of an emergency evacuation Ø Evacuation procedures will be provided at the beginning of each exam Ø Appropriate seating/seating arrangements will be arranged in line with the candidates needs
Ø Access arrangements will be applied for and put in place according to the individuals needs and with the agreement of the Awarding Body
