ROLL CALL 1.1 Resignation of C. Hajiioannou (Vice Chair) Moved by: P. Davies Seconded by: A. Durham THAT C. Hajiioannou s resignation IS ACCEPTED with regrets; and THAT the City Clerk BE REQUESTED to post the vacancy on the Brantford Cultural Advisory Committee as soon as possible. V. Payne thanked Christina for her support, enthusiasm and leadership as a cultural advocate and entrepreneur while she was in Brantford. The Committee wishes her the best of luck. 2. DECLARATION OF CONFLICT There were no declarations of conflict of interest. 3. DELEGATIONS There were no delegations. 4. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION

McKibbon THAT Section 15.11.5 of Chapter 15 of the City of Brantford Municipal Code BE WAIVED in order to introduce the following item without prior notice of motion: 2018 Creative City Network of Canada Awards of Excellence Public Art 4.1 2018 Creative City Network of Canada - Awards of Excellence - Public Art S. Munroe provided an update on the Creative City Network of Canada 2018 Awards of Excellence program, which launched on March 8, 2018; the nomination period closes on April 16, 2018. The CCNC Awards Program is designed to acknowledge visionary leadership and excellence in best practice in local cultural policy, planning, and program delivery. There are four award categories: Award of Excellence Cultural Planning; Award of Excellence Public Art; Award of Excellence Cultural Events; and Cultural Leadership Award. The awards are open to CCNC Class A voting (municipal) members in good standing; there is no nomination fee. The Award of Excellence Public Art recognizes a Canadian municipality that demonstrated visionary leadership by supporting an excellent program and process that led to a successful public art project or program. Antoski THAT the Corporation of the City of Brantford NOMINATE La Landscape de Kanata for the 2018 Creative City Network of Canada Awards of Excellence - Public Art Award; and THAT City Council BE REQUESTED to send a letter of support, as required for the nomination process, on behalf of the City of Brantford by the nomination deadline of April 16, 2018. A Committee Report will be brought forward to Committee of the Whole Operations and Adminsitration on March 20, 2018.

March 14, 2018 Page 3 4.2 2017 Municipal Cultural Plan Annual Report 5. CONSENT ITEMS Members reviewed the printed version of the 2017 Municipal Cultural Plan Annual Report draft. A Committee Report will be brought forward to Committee of the Whole Community Development as soon as the employment statistics are received. 5.1 Minutes 5.1.1 Brantford Cultural Advisory Committee February 14, 2018 Moved by: C. Antoski Seconded by: C. Hajiioannou THAT the February 14, 2017 Brantford Cultural Advisory Committee Minutes BE ADOPTED. 5.2 Council Updates There was no update. A lot of Council s time has been spent dealing with flooding issues. Members noted that they were impressed by how City staff handled the disaster. 5.3 Department Updates Staff are currently preparing a report regarding a surplus in the arts grants budget, due to funding that was not able to be dispersed to the Brant Historical Society in 2017. Staff hosted two information sessions on March 7 for the Cultural and Built Heritage Grant Fund. The program opened on March 1 and closes on May 31. Manager of Tourism and Marketing, Nicole Drake s last day before parental leave is March 29. She is expected to return in January 2019. Her 9-month position is expected to be filled by the end of March. Staff are working with the Brant Museums and Galleries Association to prepare a bid for the 2019 Ontario Museums Association (OMA) Conference.

March 14, 2018 Page 4 The newly annual Signature Experience Guide Explore the Grand is due to the printer at the end of March. June 8-10 is scheduled for the Find Your Spirit 10 th Anniversary of Harmony Square celebration. There will be a call for exhibits and artist vendors shortly. Moved by: C. Hajiioannou Seconded by: A. Durham THAT the Council and Department Updates BE RECEIVED. 6. WORKING GROUP, SUB-COMMITTEES, AND LIAISONS 6.1 Public Art Subcommittee No meeting. 6.2 Cultural and Built Heritage Grant Program Advisory Committee The Committee is waiting for applications, which are due on May 31. They will review applications in June and July, with an anticipated report to Council regarding allocation recommendations in September 2018. 6.3 Brant Museums & Galleries Association The BMGA meets on March 21 at the Paris Museum and Historical Society. 6.4 Brant Performing Arts The Brant Performing Arts group discussed their individual roles in raising the profile of arts and culture at their last meeting. They are eagerly anticipating an update from the Task Force for a Mid-Size Performance Space. They discussed a possible cultural symposium to showcase the City s cultural assets and learn from cultural professionals in other communities. C. Antoski requested more information about who the BPA would like to see running the symposium and what the group would like to see included. It is the BCAC s role to support these types of initiatives.

Stratton noted that the discussion did not go into specific details, but a new member of the BPA Janet from Bethel Community Hall has experience in cultural planning and recommended the cultural symposium, and recommended that the event host invited guests. 6.5 Tourism Advisory Committee The Tourism Advisory Committee hosted the Workplace Planning Board of Grand Erie for a presentation about tourism sector employment in Grand Erie. There was discussion in their report about how employers look for candidates primarily through social media. There are challenges with the number of applicants, their availability, and transportation to work sites. The Help Wanted report is available at www.workforceplanningboard.org for more information. The Committee started to discuss their 2018 priorities. Staff are waiting to hear back about their 2021 Ontario 55+ Games bid, which should be announced in mid-march. The Municipal Sport Tourism Strategy RFP has now closed for the second time. Staff attended Heartland Travel Showcase (Buffalo), CAA Tuxedo Tours Product Launch (St. Catharines), Festivals and Events (FEO) Conference (Hamilton), and Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) Awards (Halifax). There is a new transit map available. 6.6 Task Force for a Mid-Sized Performance Space The Task Force meets on March 26. As we have not yet heard back from the Canada Cultural Spaces Fund, S. Munroe will check with C. Antoski the week of March 19 to determine whether to delay this meeting. 6.7 Community Liaisons S. Munroe on behalf of J. Clark Brantford Public Library s main branch is anticipating reopening their doors post-construction by the end of the week. They have a community celebration planned for the weekend of April 27. The official grand opening event will be on Friday, April 27 at 2pm; all members are invited to attend. The BPL is also holding a Food for Fines program from Friday, April 27 to May 4. Through this initiative, the Library is accepting nonperishable food items in exchange for $5 in overdue fines. They will
