President of India President Ram Nath Kovind has said, better and more efficient use of water is a challenge for Indian agriculture and industry. Inaugurating India Water Week in New Delhi today, he said the issue of water is becoming more critical in view of climate change and related environmental concerns. The President also urged for a localised water management approach which should empower village and neighbourhood communities and build their capacity to manage, allocate and value their water resources.

Home Ministry The National Investigation Agency, NIA has dealt a blow to the morale of terror and separatist groups by crackdown on flow of funds from the neighbouring country to finance unrest in Kashmir. Home Minister Rajnath Singh said this while inaugurating the new headquarters office complex of the NIA in New Delhi today. He said, the government initiated steps to grant full autonomy to the NIA in investigations. Mr Singh said, the agency has proved its credibility in the last eight-and-a-half years by conducting fair, credible and professional investigations. He said, the NIA investigations have resulted in 95 per cent conviction rate. The Home Minister said, terrorism is a road block for development and it is a curse for civilized society.
Election Commission of India The Election Commission has expressed its satisfaction over the poll preparedness in Gujarat for coming Assembly elections. Addressing a press Conference at Ahmedabad this evening after the review of poll preparations in the state, Chief Election Commissioner A. K. Joti said that Assembly elections in Gujarat are expected to be held during the second half of December this year. The Chief Election Commissioner said the elections will be held with VVPAT - EVMs. Mr. Joti said, revision of Electoral rolls has been completed in the state and as on 25th September 2017, total 4 crore 33 lakh eligible voters including 2.07 crore women were on records in the state. Mr. Joti said, total 50,128 polling stations will be set up to facilitate the voters. He said, polling stations will be set up in a manner that no voter has to go beyond 2 kilo meters to cast his or her vote. He said that one all women managed polling station each in every constituency will be set up in the state.
Defence Ministry Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says, integration of the Armed Forces is essential particularly in the domain of training, communication, logistics and cyber among others to prepare for any future conflict. Addressing the Army Commanders' Conference in New Delhi today, Mrs Sitharaman said, the government is also focussing on capacity building and capability development of the force. She promised close monitoring of improvement in strategic infrastructure, long pending force modification requests, welfare of serving, retired and their families.
Ministry of External Affairs India has slammed Pakistan at the United Nations for repeatedly raising the Kashmir issue on platforms where it has not been part of the agenda. Minister at the Permanent Mission of India to the UN, Srinivas Prasad, said India rejects the efforts of the delegation of Pakistan to bring issues which have never been on the agenda of this Committee ever in its history. The issue was raised by Pakistan during a debate on decolonisation in the fourth committee of the UN General Assembly.
