McMeekin, P.E., FACEC Chair, ACEC Management Practices Committee Subject: Nominations for 2013 QBS Awards Deadline: March 15, 2013 Every year, NSPE and ACEC partner to administer the QBS Awards. The purpose of the QBS Awards is to recognize public and private entities that make exemplary use of the qualificationsbased selection process at the state and local levels. In turn, QBS Award winners serve as examples of how well the QBS process works, and they help NSPE and ACEC promote the practice of QBS in states that do not use QBS to procure engineering services. NSPE and ACEC now seek nominations for the 2013 QBS Awards, honoring entities that retain design professionals using qualifications-based selection. The deadline for nominations is Friday, March 15, 2013. A simple nomination form is attached for your use. Two QBS Awards A maximum of one QBS Award is presented annually in each of the following two categories: Government Sector Nongovernment Sector
Nominations may come from an NSPE State Society, an ACEC Member Organization, a public or private entity, or an individual in the public or private sector. Self-nomination is also permitted. Nongovernmental entities and individuals eligible for nomination include private corporations, privately funded research labs, private utility companies, design professionals, construction contractors, developers, and any nongovernmental entity that uses design professionals services on a regular basis. Governmental entities eligible for nomination include states, municipalities, local governments, governmental departments or agencies, school districts, university systems, public utility systems, publicly funded research laboratories, special purpose districts, and the like. These lists are not all-inclusive. Mandated and Non-Mandated QBS Public entities operating under mandated QBS procedures ( mini-brooks laws ) are eligible to receive the QBS Award if they have demonstrated exceptional leadership in using qualificationsbased selection. However, nominations from public entities not mandated to use QBS will receive priority consideration if all other criteria are rated equally. Recognition at the 2013 NSPE Annual Meeting QBS Award winners will receive an engraved trophy and will be honored during the NSPE Annual Meeting in July 2013. Travel and lodging expenses will be paid by NSPE. In addition to the QBS Awards, the QBS Awards program will designate up to four Merit Award winners, who will be presented with a plaque at a local event. Please be sure to consult your nominee and obtain his, her, or the organization s consent before submitting the nominee for consideration.
