Board of Education Meeting November 15, 2010 The Board of Education of the Findlay City Schools met in regular session at 5:30 p.m. in the Gymnasium at Northview Primary School. Vice President Lockard called the meeting to order. Present were: Mrs. Dysinger, Mrs. Lockard, Mr. Pochard, Mr. Shrader, Superintendent Wittwer and Treasurer Barnhart. Absent was: Mr. Hoffman. CELEBRATIONS Mrs. Rooker welcomed the board members and celebrated Northview Primary School. She shared this year s theme, Camp Can Do and celebrated her staff and students for their many accomplishments this year. Mr. Shrader celebrated the recent successes of Findlay First Edition in their Ada competition. Mrs. Dysinger celebrated the Blue and Gold newspaper on their recent Pacemaker nomination. She also celebrated the OSBA presentation given by Board President, Rick Hoffman; Superintendent, Dr. Wittwer; City Auditor, Robert Sprague; County Commissioner, Phillip Riegle; and The Courier Editor, Peter Mattiace. Mrs. Lockard celebrated Northview going green with their recycling project, and also for collecting 60 jars of peanut butter and 28 jars of jelly for Chopin Hall. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION FEA President Gary Kapostasy welcomed back Director of Technology, Martin White from his recent absence; wished the recent retirees well in their retirements; and he stated that the Race to the Top was moving along in the right direction and most items were accepted with revisions. 2010-11-003 Approval of Minutes It was moved by Mr. Shrader, seconded by Mrs. Dysinger to approve the minutes of the regular meeting on October 25, 2010 and the special meeting on November 1, 2010. Vice President Lockard 2010-11-006 Dates and Locations of 2011 Board of Education Meetings It was moved by Mr. Pochard, seconded by Mr. Shrader to approve the superintendent s recommendation for the approval of the dates and locations of the 2011 Board of Education Meetings as shown in EXHIBIT D with the exceptions that January 17 will be changed to January 24, and November 15 will be changed to November 14. Building Interior Colors Committee Glenwood REPORTS TO THE BOARD Cathy Zellner presented the building interior colors for the new Glenwood Middle School. 2010-11-007 Approval of Interior Color Schemes for the new Glenwood Middle School It was moved by Mrs. Lockard, seconded by Mr. Pochard to approve the interior color schemes for the new Glenwood Middle School as presented by Cathy Zellner of RCM architects. K-5 Physical Education Course of Study EXHIBIT E Judy Pelphrey presented the K-5 Physical Education Course of Study. B. Preschool Course of Study EXHIBIT F Kathy Young presented the Preschool Course of Study. C. High School Science Textbook Proposal EXHIBIT G The High School Science Textbook Proposal was given to the board. D. School Board Counterproposal Dr. Wittwer discussed the school board counterproposal. Dr. Wittwer and Mr. Shrader will present it to City Council at the November 16 council meeting. SUPERINTENDENT S COMMENTS Dr. Wittwer stated the transition teams are hard at work. He said that Jerri Strait has many good ideas regarding transportation. He reminded everyone of the Roundtable meeting on November 16. He also thanked Nate Weihrauch on the wonderful job he did hosting the tournament games. He thanked all involved with the OSBA presentation.

BOARD S COMMENTS Mr. Pochard stated he would like the Personnel Committee to get involved with the teacher selection process for the transition to the new middle schools. He stated he would like to insure that we are being fair and put together the best staffs for our students. He also stated that with the new athletic league being formed it was time to look over our policies and procedures for the athletic program. He asked about progress being made in regards to drug testing for extra-curricular activities. He said the Findlay Youth Baseball organization is interested in helping to fund the softball/baseball field at the new Glenwood Middle School. He congratulated longtime family friend David Coolidge on his retirement. Mr. Shrader commented on the need to get the information to the community about decisions the board is making on the building project. He stated perhaps the board should attend PTO meetings to inform parents. 2010-11-008 Executive Session It was moved by Mr. Pochard, seconded by Mrs. Dysinger to go into executive session to discuss employment of personnel at 7:28 p.m. Roll call: Mr. Pochard, aye; Mrs. Dysinger, aye; Mrs. Lockard, aye; Mr. Shrader, aye.
