Ohio State Beekeepers Association Annual Fall Conference November 2nd, 2013 - Plain City, Ohio Tolles Career Center - 7877 US Highway 42 S - Plain City OH 43064 OSBA invites you to attend our 2013 Fall Conference at the Tolles Career Center in Plain City, Ohio on November 2nd and to help us celebrate our 125th year! Tolles Career & Technical Center is our new, larger meeting location for our Fall Conference. This new location is accessible, and offers improved parking, larger classrooms, larger room for lunch and a huge hall for vendors. This facility will enhance the conference experience for participants and vendors and will provide a location where we can continue to grow. We are also excited to include honey judging this year at the fall meeting. Enter your honey and win bragging rights for your honey! Based on past attendance, and central we expect over 200 beekeepers. Several vendors will also be there with a variety of bee supplies for sale. (Attending vendors will be listed online as they confirm their reservation). Registration Fees $20 - OSBA Member Pre-Registered $25 - OSBA Member at the door. Mail registration must be postmarked by October 21st Keynote & Guest Speakers Phil Craft will be our Keynote Speaker. Phil served as the Kentucky Dept. of Agriculture s State Apiarist from 1999 through 2011. He is a graduate of Oberlin College in Ohio (BA in biology), and the University of Kentucky (BS in civil engineering). He is a past president and past chairman of the Heartland Apicultural Society, past program chairman of Eastern Apicultural Society, and past president of the Apiary Inspectors of America. A native of the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, he now lives out in the sticks in the Bluegrass Region of Kentucky near Lexington with his family, a very old dog, and some bee hives. He will be speaking on 'Reducing Winter Colony Loss' and 'Varroa Mite Biology and Control' Our guest speaker, Michael Bush, is the author of 'The Practical Beekeeper - Beekeeping Naturally. He will be speaking on 'Lazy Beekeeping' and 'Four Simple Steps to Healthier Bees'
Honey Judging Event The 2013 fall conference will feature open honey judging. Attendees will be able to observe the judging that takes place throughout the day. Enter your honey and win prizes and bragging rights! We hope this will become an annual event at the fall meeting. Rules: Open to OSBA Members only. Entries must be pre-registered. There is no cost to enter the honey contest this year. The number and type of container required varies by category. (See the specifications in each category below). Entries must be turned in during registration during the day of the event. Prizes will be awarded at the closing session at the end of the day. Entries may be picked up after the closing session. Any entries not picked up after the closing session will become property of OSBA to be given away or disposed of. All decisions by the judge are final. Categories: Light (includes water white, extra white, white, extra light amber): Three 1# glass gamber or queenline jars. Dark (includes light amber, amber and dark amber): Three 1# glass gamber or queenline jars. Granulated Honey: Three wide mouth glass containers ranging between 12 oz to 1 ½ pounds. Chunk Honey: Three wide mouth glass containers ranging from 12 oz to 1 ½ pounds. Prizes First Prize: Ribbon and $20 (one awarded in each category) Second Prize: Ribbon and $10 (one awarded in each category) Best of Show: Rosette and $20
