INTRODUCTION TO THE WFC2015 The XIV World Forestry Congress (WFC2015), to be held on 7 11 September 2015 in Durban, South Africa, is a major opportunity for the world s foresters, forest supporters and intersectoral partners to gather, share expertise and experiences, and project a vision of the future role of forests in global sustainable development. The Congress - the first to be held in Africa - is inclusive of people from all countries, regions and sectors, whether they belong to a government organisation, NGO, private company, scientific or professional body, a forestry society, or simply have a personal interest in attending. It encourages broad participation by the forest, agricultural, livestock, energy and water sectors, the public sector, civil society, and research and academic institutions, and especially by women, youth and the private sector. Past WFCs have attracted up to 7,000 participants, and the Government of South Africa anticipates a record attendance at the Congress in 2015. WFC2015 aims to: position forestry as an integral part of sustainable development at all levels national, regional and global; identify and review major issues facing the sector and propose technical, scientific and policy interventions to promote forest sustainability; provide an open forum in which the world s forestry community and partners from other, related sectors can share and debate their knowledge, views and latest findings and establish and consolidate partnerships and networks; showcase the latest developments and innovations in the global forest sector, using multimedia platforms to illustrate practical applications and linkages; and ensure that critical issues are tackled and that all key stakeholders, particularly youth, students, professionals, women and local communities, have a platform on which to voice the ideas and concerns of their constituencies. CONGRESS STATISTICS PAPERS SUBMITTED: 2,500 PAPERS ACCEPTED FOR THE FINAL PROGRAMME: 1,800 COUNTRIES CONTRIBUTING TO THE PROGRAMME: 70+ OVERALL EXPECTED ATTENDANCE: 5,000 EXPECTED ATTENDANCE FROM ACADEMIA: 2,100 EXPECTED ATTENDANCE FROM INDUSTRY: 400 The central theme of WFC2015 is Forests and People: Investing in a Sustainable Future. The aim is to show that investment in forestry is an investment in people and, in turn, an investment in sustainable development. WFC2015 will emphasize the role of forests in income generation, employment creation and equity and the vital links between forests and climate change, biodiversity conservation and sustainable water resources. It will explore the governance structures that best promote implementation of sustainable management of all types of forests. The key cross-cutting focus of WFC2015 is investment in forestry. WFC2015 will examine the need for, and the advantages of, investing in: the enabling environment especially policy and institutional; people building capacity at all levels, knowledge and education in forestry, community-based forest institutions, and other human capital; assets such as forests and value-added production, largely by the private sector. The Congress programme will be professionally and culturally rewarding, with a variety of sessions, events and dialogue, to ensure that all participants are engaged in defining a vision and strategies for the sustainable future of forests and forestry. We look forward to welcoming you in Durban! PAGE 2 of 8

SPONSORSHIP SPONSORSHIP IMPACT The primary tangible benefit is recognition of the company or organisation on the Congress website, newsletters and other marketing material. Pre- Congress, the sponsors will be included in the marketing message to the global forestry community of more than 20,000 individuals, served by FAO and DAFF. At the Congress, sponsors will be exposed to an anticipated 5,000 delegates: professionals, theorists, researchers and students involved in the broad field of forestry. Sponsorship and Exhibition Prospectus Companies can strengthen their reputation, boost their sales and entrench their brand at the Congress, which attracts cutting edge industry and research with key decision makers in the forest sector. Home-grown, world-class industries can show their national pride in supporting a prestigious international event. All companies can benefit from accessing potential leaders in their companies, as a highly-trained cadre of foresters, forest engineers and other students and practitioners with knowledge of forestry will attend the event. SPONSORSHIP By becoming a sponsor, your organisation can help make WFC2015 a success, and together we can create a memorable experience for all attendees. Through sponsorship of this unique event, your organisation will be promoted to more than 5,000 participants expected at the Congress, opening the door to new customers, collaborators, and supporters. Sponsors can contribute at one of six levels: Diamond; Platinum; Gold; Silver; Bronze; and Supporter. The extent of your engagement will determine your brand s presence in exhibitions, informational materials and areas in the Congress site, and give you access to the Congress itself. There are additional specific opportunities to support innovative media approaches; and to provide financial support for various aspects of the the staging of the event. We look forward to working with you to decide which package is right for your company. Should you wish to support the Congress in a way not detailed herein, please do not hesitate to contact the sponsorship manager Lisa Vickers (lisa@wfc2015.org.za). Reasons to become a sponsor Sponsorship provides an excellent opportunity to promote your name, to support your brands and to maintain a high profile before, during and after the Congress. Involvement in the Congress will enable you to associate your business with the global effort to ensure a sustainable planet, and to align your social responsibility programme with goals of environmental sustainability. Congress participants are keen to improve their knowledge and contribution to global sustainability. Aligning your organisation with this influential and powerful educational experience demonstrates your commitment to assisting their development at a personal level. Your representatives can mix informally with participants from around the world. Your organisation s involvement, commitment and support for WFC2015 will be widely acknowledged as outlined in this prospectus. Your organisation will benefit significantly from exposure to a keenly interested, relevant and, above all, influential audience in an educational environment away from the competition of everyday distractions. Sponsorship contributes to the promotion, planning and operation of the WFC2015, reducing the overall cost of managing and staging the event and enabling a higher level of participation by delegates from developing countries and under-represented sectors, including youth.
