There will be no separate discussion of these items. page 2 5.0 INFORMATION ITEMS 5.1 Student Board Representatives Report AHS Student Representative C.J. Gray spoke about Tiger Pal day where all freshmen attend orientation events. C.J. shared that the AHS football team won their first game in two years which created a lot of excitement for the school. The back-to-school rally was one of the best C.J. has been too. This year AHS has over a dozen foreign exchange students on campus. Lastly, C.J. noted that construction of the fine arts building is nearing completion. MHS Student Representative Jayclyn Dean shared that LINK orientation was successful. Jayclyn discussed fall sports. The Senior Sunrise activity had over 60-70 students in attendance. Jayclyn shared that the Welcome Back rally was last Friday and was a lot of fun for everyone. At the rally they welcomed the new teachers and staff on campus. MHS has eight foreign exchange students on campus. Jayclyn spoke about today s Safety Day and the numerous workshops that students ran through. The school photo this year spelled out EXCEL. Lastly, Jayclyn shared that tomorrow is club rush. 5.2 Bond Update Executive Director Dave Lonn shared that the AHS Fine Arts project is continuing to move along. The lowered ceilings are in and light fixtures are going up. The hope is to have students in their new classrooms by the middle of next month. 5.3 LCAP Update Superintendent Chris Hartley shared that we are working on changing the timeline for this year. We will be holding stakeholder meetings earlier in the year. The timeline will be brought to the Board when updated. 5.4 Opening Day Enrollments Dr. Hartley pointed out that we are up thirty-seven students from last year. This is our biggest gain in the last seven years. 5.5 Summer School Report Summer School Principal Mark Sahlberg shared that this was his fourth year doing summer school. This was another great year. Mark thanked MHS Assistant Principal Secretary Carrie Nickols for all of her hard work along with the custodial crew. This year s summer school allowed students to attend either a classroom-based program or an independent study program. There were 184 students who attended the classroom based program and many more for independent study. 5.6 Summer Maintenance Report Dave Lonn shared a report of all the summer maintenance jobs that were completed. Both site custodial crews did a great job. 6.0 PUBLIC HEARING AND DISCUSSION

If approved tonight, we will go out to sale in October and receive revenue as early as January. The resolution gives us the ability to go out for no more than $8.5 million in sales, the remaining balance of our bond. This sale has the lowest interest rate of our previous two sales. There will be an average of $22/$100k assessed value. 7.5 Recommend approval of Resolution 4/2015-16, Agreement with State of California for the Sinkin the Stormwater in Humboldt County project It was moved by Colleen Toste and seconded by Brian Lovell to approve Resolution 4/2015-16, Agreement with State of California for the Sinkin the Stormwater in Humboldt County project 7.6 Recommend approval of the updated 2015-16 Local Control and Accountability Plan and Annual Update It was moved by Colleen Toste and seconded by Dana Silvernale to approve the updated 2015-16 Local Control and Accountability Plan and Annual Update Dr. Hartley shared that after the Humboldt County Office of Education reviewed district LCAP plans they had some suggestions for changes to be made. This amended plan reflects those suggested changes.
page 4 ACTION ITEMS continued 7.7 Recommend approval of AHS German Student Exchange Trip June 11, 2016 July 4, 2016 It was moved by Brian Lovell and seconded by Colleen Toste to approve the AHS German Student Exchange Trip June 11, 2016 July 4, 2016 AHS German teacher Carolyn Bradish-Bareilles shared that the trip will be slightly different this year. Students will be missing finals week. Students who cannot take their finals prior to leaving for the exchange or will be participating in graduation ceremonies will leave following those events. 8.0 COMMUNICATIONS 9.0 ANNOUNCEMENTS 9.1 Regular Board Meeting, October 13, 2015, 6 pm, McKinleyville High School Library 10.0 FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS 11.0 COMMENTS FROM SCHOOL SITE PRINCIPALS MHS Principal Roger Macdonald shared that the campus is off to a really great start. Safety Day was a successful event. Mr. Macdonald thanked staff for all their hard work. AHS Principal Dave Navarre agreed that there is great energy on campus and they ve had a successful start. Mr. Navarre thanked Michelle Camilli and Rene Campbell, site secretaries, for their hard work this summer. He s also pleased with the great hires that were made this summer. SRCHS Nic Collart feels blessed to have had the opportunity to be on both campuses for the start of school this year. SRCHS had a lot of positive energy and they are off to a great start. 12.0 COMMENTS FROM DIRECTOR OF FISCAL SERVICES Cindy Vickers shared the energy this school year is more positive. 13.0 COMMENTS FROM EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR Dave Lonn thanked all the custodial crews for their hard work and for wanting to be sure our schools are in great shape. Dave thanked Todd Curry for all the technology crew s work this summer. Also thanked all the classified staff who assisted in ensuring our campuses looked great for the start of school. 14.0 COMMENTS FROM SUPERINTENDENT Chris Hartley shared that both frosh events were great because they are led by the students. Dr. Hartley believes that involving students in key decisions and key events helps us have successful schools and students. Chris thanked the Instructional Coaches for all their work this summer preparing for the back-to-school in-service for teachers. Lastly, Dr. Hartley mentioned that Bill Townsend, groundsman, has retired. Mr. Townsend has made a significant impact on NHUHSD and he will be greatly missed.
