ANNOUNCEMENTS Chair Blazey gave a brief of upcoming meetings and events. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Motion to approve the May 16 th, 2016 Park Board Meeting Minutes MOVED by Martin and seconded by McMullen. The motion carried unanimously. PUBLIC COMMENT There were no public comments. NEW BUSINESS Medina Flag Board member Karen Sparks related that she had been given Medina flags by a local resident. Sparks gave a brief history and background. The Board discussed whether the flags could be used for Medina Days and similar events. Motion to donate the flag to the City and the City can fly on the flag pole MOVED by Martin and seconded by McMullen. The motion carried unanimously. Chair Blazey suggested that the donation of the flag be included in a newsletter. Pickle Ball Court Board member Sparks gave some information of how existing tennis courts could be delineated to accommodate for Pickle Ball. Sparks circulated some supporting material. Chair Blazey asked whether converting the courts could be something that the Public Works team could carry out. It was suggested that the team could start with the one closest to the woods in Fairweather Park. Park Beautification Board member Gray introduced the concept of beautification in Medina based on having flowering blooms in the parks. Gray spoke of events that could promote the donation and Park Board Minutes Page 1 June 20 th, 2016

planting of bulbs at particular times of the year e.g. in the fall. Gray stated that this could be tied in with the schools, in a similar way to the Arbor Tree day event. Discussion focused on ideal spots for the blooms, annuals versus perennials; and the importance of having parameters because of the varying heights and states in between bloom. There was a consensus to bring it back as an agenda item in August. Bike Rodeo The idea of having a Bike Rodeo event was discussed. This would be headed up by the Police Department working in conjunction with Medina Elementary. It would help teach kids and parents about safety. Par course Board member Gray stated that she had received enquiries on the whereabouts of the balance beam. Chair Blazey stated that the equipment had been removed systematically. Christmas tree lighting ceremony Chair Blazey introduced the idea of having a tree lighting ceremony in December. The Board discussed how this could be managed in bad weather. It was agreed to keep the item on the agenda going forwards. Walkable Medina City Manager Sauerwein updated the Park Board on the recent community event. Chair Blazey gave some background on the Points Loop trail that would also require working with Clyde Hill to make it a reasonable walking path. A discussion ensued on moving forward with this piece of work. OTHER BUSINESS Park Projects update including Playground equipment/project. City Manager Sauerwein updated the Park Board on the recent discussions regarding the Playground expansion, notably that the playground expansion would be included as a 2017 budget amendment and the work would likely commence in the spring of 2017. Park board members expressed concern at the later timing and there was a consensus that it would make more sense both practically and financially to have the work carried out sooner. PARK REPORTS Board member McMullen stated that there was nothing significant to report but did enquire about the receptacle for dog waste. Chair Blazey reported that the tennis courts needed a replacement center strap. Chair Blazey stated that the Indian Trail looked great. Lake Lane had been worked on. Board member Dickmann stated that there was dead branch on Medina Beach Park and that the stairs to the beach required some attention; there was also a lawn roll in the main Medina Park and suggested that a bench might be placed in a shady spot; the water fountain needed to be replaced. Park Board Meeting Minutes Page 2 June 20 th, 2016

At Viewpoint Park, Dickmann asked if there were any updates to having stepping rocks/stones in the water. It was suggested that this might be a question for Robert Grumbach, Director of Development Services. NEXT MEETING DATE: Monday, August 15, 2016, ADJOURNMENT: 6:20 p.m. Motion to adjourn. MOVED by McMullen and seconded by Perry. The motion carried unanimously. Minutes taken by: Sunita Hall Deputy City Clerk Park Board Meeting Minutes Page 3 June 20 th, 2016
