Green Education Program E 1. Memo from Diane Butterworth, Program Coordinator, Clean City, Community Services, dated November 1, 2010, re: Green Education Program Update (File G25). D. Butterworth, Program Coordinator, Clean City, Community Services, provided an update on the Green Education Program. She provided details on the success of the program from September 2010 to mid December 2010, indicating that the number of bookings is the highest on record. In response to questions from Committee regarding the increase of bookings over past years, Ms. Butterworth confirmed that the numbers are increasing and advised that comparables from 2008 to 2010 are being prepared. In addition, Ms. Butterworth stated that Clean City staff are continuously working with the Region of Peel and provided details on information available through their website. 2010 11 24 Page 3 of 9

F. Adopt-A-Park Program D. Butterworth, Program Coordinator, Clean City, Community Services, advised that a full update on the Adopt-A-Park Program will be provided in January 2011. G. Harvest Clean-Up 2010 G 1. Memo from Diane Butterworth, Program Coordinator, Clean City, Community Services, dated November 1, 2010, re: 2010 Harvest Clean-Up Update (File G25). D. Butterworth, Program Coordinator, Clean City, Community Services, advised Committee that the 2010 Harvest Clean-Up Campaign was a success, noting a significant increase in participation over 2009. She referred to the chart in the agenda which provided approximate participation numbers for the various events held throughout the campaign. Ms. Butterworth thanked Committee Members, Clean City staff and the Region of Peel for communication of the Harvest Clean- Up Program. In response to a question from Regional Councillor J. Sanderson regarding the possibility of including The Great Pumpkin Party as an event under this program, Ms. Butterworth advised that this event was not coordinated under the Harvest Clean-Up Program, and as such, could not be included. Ms. Butterworth indicated that this may be reviewed for future programs. Ms. Butterworth added that while Clean City staff set up booths at corporate events such as The Great Pumpkin Party and Brampton Day, only the number of people that attend the booth is recorded. 2010 11 24 Page 4 of 9

H. Corporate Clean-up H 1. Memo from Andrew Stangherlin, Environmental Programmer, Clean City, Community Services, dated November 4, 2010, re: Corporate Clean-Up Update (File G25). A. Stangherlin, Environmental Programmer, Clean City, Community Services, provided details on the 2010 Harvest Corporate Clean-Up at Centennial Park. He indicated that there was an increase in the number of individual participants this year; however, the number of businesses decreased. Mr. Stangherlin thanked all of the volunteers who assisted in making this event a success. G2-6 I 1. Memo from Andrew Stangherlin, Environmental Programmer, Clean City, Community Services, dated November 4, 2010, re: Clean City High School Green Club Council Update (File G25). A. Stangherlin, Environmental Programmer, Clean City, Community Services, provided details on the recent events and accomplishments of the High School Green Club Council (HSGCC), which included the following: Tree planting on October 28, 2010 at the HSGCC s adopted park, Professor s Lake (9 trees were planted) o Mr. Stangherlin thanked D. Whillans, Chair, Brampton Clean City Committee, for the donation of trees and for assisting with the planting. Presence at the annual Fletcher s Meadow Volunteer Fair, which resulted in 13 new student volunteer registrations (an increase over 2009) Purchase of 20 organic cotton t-shirts through the proceeds of the bake sale fundraiser (over $200.00 raised) o Mr. Stangherlin thanked K. Unwin, Member, Brampton Clean City Committee, for her contribution of baked goods and volunteering her time to the sale. HSGCC reached record high numbers of youth registration and attendance at their meetings as a result of the efforts of the HSGCC members through social networking in school and online HSGCC orientation for new high school students interested in joining this council was well received. A copy of this orientation package will be provided to the Committee via email. In response to questions from Committee, Mr. Stangherlin provided the following information: Final sign-off for pictures taken during the tree planting at Professor s Lake was received last week A follow-up walk around the park will be taking place with the tree planting participants to show them the results of their efforts An indication that arrangements could be made for a plaque in recognition of the donation of trees 2010 11 24 Page 6 of 9

Update from Patrick McLeavey, Member, Brampton Clean City Committee, re: Calls to the Enforcement and By-law Services Division. P. McLeavey, Member,, commended Enforcement and By-law Services staff for the service they provide to the residents of Brampton. He provided details on the process for filing a complaint and provided examples of the types of issues this Division deals with. In response to questions from Committee regarding enforcement and by-law services, R. MacLeod, By-law Enforcement Supervisor, Corporate Services, provided the following information: Compliance on matters pertaining to signs is increasing Unauthorized signs on private property may be removed by the property owner Issues relating to junk on a property may be reported to the Enforcement and By-law Services Division BCC058-2010 That the verbal update from Patrick McLeavey, Member,, to the Brampton Clean City Committee Meeting of November 24, 2010, re: Calls to the Enforcement and By-law Services Division be received. G2-8 Ms. Carol Chaput, Supervisor of Public Education and Outreach, Region of Peel, responded to a request submitted at the September 22, 2010 meeting, regarding compostable chip bags. Ms. Chaput advised that the Region of Peel has approached the manufacturers to advise that the type of packaging used for compostable chip bags does not break down within the composting timeframe utilized by the Region of Peel. As a result, the Region of Peel will not be accepting any chip bags in the green bin program. BCC059-2010 That the verbal update from Ms. Carol Chaput, Supervisor of Public Education and Outreach, Region of Peel, to the Meeting of November 24, 2010, re: Compostable Chip Bags be received. L. Whillans, Chair,, advised Committee that Cardinal Leger Secondary School has requested ash trays to be installed along the sidewalk adjacent to the school, noting that the students have indicated they would use them. Mr. Whillans asked staff if this could be arranged. Regional Councillor J. Sanderson, Council Liaison, Brampton Clean City Committee, indicated that he would discuss this request with the appropriate staff. N 2. In response to questions from Committee regarding new term appointments for the, S. Pacheco, Legislative Coordinator, Corporate Services, provided information regarding the projected timeline and application process for appointments to the various Council committees for the new term of Council. 2010 11 24 Page 8 of 9
