LAND OF 365 BEACHES Famously said to have a beach for every single day of the year, Antigua and Barbuda is one of the Caribbean s premier destinations for those wishing to sail luxury yachts, trek through lush tropical rainforests and dive spectacular reefs and wrecks. A former British colony, Antigua and Barbuda retains strong links with the history, culture and language of Britain which continue to echo across its candycolored villages and imposing old forts. In 2015, Antigua and Barbuda opened the new USD 100,000 million VC Bird International airport, one of the most modern international airports in the Caribbean islands. The new airport further enhances the nation s profile as the most interconnected nation in the Caribbean, serving as the key international gateway to the Eastern Caribbean islands with direct flights from the US, Canada and Europe. Antigua and Barbuda s banking sector is the second largest in the Eastern Caribbean region, accounting for one-fifth of regional deposits, assets and loans. Antigua and Barbuda s educational sector has seen a growing interest in medical education and is home to the University of Health Sciences Antigua (UHSA) and the American University of Antigua, both of which attract medical students from outside the island nation.
