VISITOR PARTICIPATION Dr. Quattrochi thanked Mrs. Belinda Mach and Trenna Parsons for consistently being recognized for all the activities they do against drug and alcohol use for the People Leading America s Youth (P.L.A.Y.) program led by Mrs. Mach. Mrs. Mach gave an overview of the P.L.A.Y. program and shared their planned activities. Five students wrote skits and performed them for the Board. SUPERINTENDENT S REPORT *Dr. Quattrochi congratulated Anna Truman on receiving the Franklin B. Walter All-Scholastic Award. He also recognized the outstanding senior scholars. *Dr. Quattrochi spoke on the ability to have say in the new ESSA legislation through OSBA and BASA. *He explained the resolution process of the OFCC. There are three architecture firms that have scheduled interviews in May. The State Superintendent approved our unvoted Bonds.
DIRECTOR OF PROGRAMS REPORT *Mr. Robinson explained that he spent a day with 20 students and 2 teachers at the Teach Success Summit. Overall, 48 nations, 12,000 students and 3 colleges were involved. *Getting another $245,000 for 21 st Century Learning due to Young Entrepreneurs Consortium Straight A Grant Repurposing of left over funds. The POWER CENTER will be hosting an Open House on May 13 th from 10:00-6:00 and will be selling plants, as they did last year. STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT REPORT Mrs. Gotschall reported: *Bell-Herron students started state testing today. *The Bell-Herron track teams have had a great start to their seasons. *PTO is partnering with CES, DES, and AES PTOs to sponsor a ColorAThon which will take place May 22nd at Community Field. This is a 5K race open to all ages. Each PTO receives 70% of its registration money if there is $5000 or more in total registration. *8th Grade students will be participating in Junior Achievement events on May 6th. They will hear from local business leaders and other professionals about their profession and responsibilities. *Bell-Herron Thespians have been preparing to perform the musical Alice in Wonderland Jr. the last few weeks. *Teacher appreciation week is May 2nd-6th. Please take a few moments any day, but especially that week to thank a teacher. LEGISLATIVE REPORT Mrs. Helen Skinner reported that recent introduced bills include:
House Bill (HB) 481 revises requirements regarding student enrollment reporting, mandatory student withdrawal policies and scholarship program eligibility relative to students who choose to not take state assessments during the 2015-16 school year. HB 487 requires the State Board of Education to establish the state Seal of Biliteracy to be attached or affixed to the high school transcripts of qualifying students. HB 496 enacts the Student to Soldiers Support Act (S3A). Relates to participation of students who are serving the uniformed services in extracurricular activities. HB 498 and Senate Bill (SB) 297 are almost the same. They address student expulsion for communicating threat of violence on school grounds. COMMITTEE REPORTS Mrs. Seck represented the Board at the BHMS PTO Meeting and stated, It is amazing what all PTO s do.
