The meeting was called to order by Mrs. Susan David-Kryszczak at 7:03p.m. Statement: In accordance with the Sunshine Law: Notice of this meeting has been provided to the South Jersey Times, the Courier Post, the District Website, and the Municipal Clerk of the Township of Deptford to be posted in a public place. COMMUNICATIONS January 16, 2018 Dr. Blachford stated how wonderful he felt the Deptford School District is. PRESENTATION Mrs. Maria Gioffre, Principal at Central Early Childhood Center, spoke about the Child Connection Center at Central Early Childhood Center, a Pascal Sykes Initiative, and stated how well she thought the program was doing for the children and families of their school. She then introduced representatives from Child Connection Center who spoke about their program. Then a parent from Central Early Childhood Center who is involved in the Child Connection Center spoke about how the program has positively affected her children. Discussion followed. REPORTS POLICY 1. Interim Superintendent Dr. Blachford discussed the difficulty of calling snow days and discussed the process and stated that he tries to do the best he can. 2. UNFINISHED BUSINESS Mrs. Gray asked if there would be a New Jersey School Board s retreat. Mrs. David-Kryszczak stated there would be. Mrs. Gray asked that when putting the board goals together that the board focus on strategies. She asked when the bus inspections were scheduled for. Mr. Reitzel stated that he will find out. Mrs. Gray stated she was concerned about the inspections and when the hiring of the additional mechanic would be. NEW BUSINESS Ms. Rosser stated that she was happy she attended the township s Come Fly with Me and Martin Luther King ceremonies. Mr. McDevitt stated that he and Mr. McKenna recently attended a boy s basketball game at Dr. Blachford s previous school district. Daniel Borchers stated that he had an issue with his child s bus driver not stopping at the bus stop, which is a house stop. He also stated that his child s bus driver apparently hit another student. He stated he contacted the Transportation Department but was not getting anywhere. Dr. Blachford stated that he would get his contact information and look into the situation. Ginny Alcott stated that the My Stop app is not useful and does not work properly. She asked that the board look into not having the app as they look at the budget. RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING A MEETING CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC Motion by Dr. Scambia, seconded by Mrs. Newcomb, on the recommendation of the Superintendent to approve the following: WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 10:4-12 allows for a Public Body to go into closed session during a Public Meeting; and WHEREAS, the Board of Education of the Township of Deptford has deemed it necessary to go into closed session to discuss certain matters which are exempted from the Public; and WHEREAS, the regular meeting of this Board of Education will reconvene at the conclusion of closed session, at approximately 9:30 p.m. this evening. 9
