B. Election of Officers for 2017 Jody Kerbyson presided over the Chair and Vice Chair nominations. Jim Zulauf was nominated for the position of Chair and accepted the nomination. Jawad Shah was nominated for the position of Vice Chair and accepted the nomination John Shetler moved to approve the nomination of Jim Zulauf as Chair and Jawad Shah as Vice Chair. Appointment of Troy Napier as Chair of the TDCC Scott Henry moved to appoint Troy Napier as Chair of the TDCC. John Shetler H. Financial Update Leanne Panduren moved to approve the Financial Update. John Shetler supported the IV. Partner Agencies/Department Updates A. DHHS Sandi Mose Kent, Oakland, Ottawa and Washtenaw counties will be implementing the program requiring a waiver for time limited food assistance. Able Bodies Adults must meet the requirements to continue to receive food assistance. Child daycare will be available for City of Flint residents for infants and children 0 3 years of age. They will be eligible for 40 hours every 2 weeks. It can be any provider that the parent chooses. B. Adult Education Annette Schlaud 3
Annette Schlaud attended an Adult Education conference. Sean Lively is the State Director for Adult Based Education. He is looking to improve the rankings in the State. Jody Kerbyson and Annette Schlaud plan to meet next week with providers to promote services. C. WDA Maggie Sayles The marketing campaign s present aim is to promote technical school. It is great to have cooperation and collaboration in working with high schools and colleges. The Earn and Learn partnership offers paid work experience. Not everyone is geared toward classroom learning. GST Michigan Works is ahead of the game due to the cooperation and collaboration. The Water Grant continues to move forward. Good things are happening in Flint as it works towards recovery. D. Business Services Department Dave Rose The STTF Competitive Grant was $18 million statewide. GST Michigan Works submitted 46 applications and 32 were funded for 2017. The Apprentice Initiative has slowed due to weather, but a lot of the participants are working on the Flint Water project. 19 have been hired as apprentices. In January, we will be recruiting for a new cohort of 15 for the apprentice readiness program. V. President and CEO Update Craig Coney discussed the Flint Water Project progress and the need for truck drivers. We will be extending outside the City of Flint for truck drivers. A Job Fair will be held on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 to fill the Water Liaison positions. The court ordered that each home receive a new filter every three months. Each POD offers water, filters and recycling bags. We met or exceeded all the performance standards. Thanks to staff for their hard work. Jody Kerbyson discussed the meeting schedule for the upcoming year. She also stated there is a scheduling conflict with our current meeting place. We will be moving to the Lapeer County Center building. We are looking to open a satellite office in the southern end of Genesee County to better serve the residents there. Jody Kerbyson recognized the commissioners whose terms are expiring. She thanked them for their serve and for a job well done. VI. Adjournment 4
