Each year I volunteer to be appointed as the guardian ad litem for children involved in a family law matter. Over the last five years I have handled seven such matters. 34. Yes I have taught a continuing legal education program on the subject matter of collecting a judgment and on objections during trials. 36. While in law school, I clerked for the Arlington County General District Court where I assisted the judges with research on various cases and observed them managing their courtrooms on a daily basis. 37. Explain the potential contribution you believe your election would bring to this position. I am a well-qualified candidate to serve our community as a circuit judge. I have a broad range of experience practicing law in both the government sector and private sector. I have demonstrated competence in several areas of the law, including, criminal, civil, family, and probate. I have demonstrated my commitment to serving my profession and community through my active participation with and leadership in bar organizations, community groups, and by serving as a guardian ad litem. Nevertheless, it is my qualities which cannot be conveyed through my resume which truly distinguish me as a qualified candidate for circuit judge. I possess a level headed temperament and devotion to professionalism, which has enabled me to resolve cases throughout my career effectively and efficiently without the undue waste or delay caused by unnecessary strife or showmanship. I possess an intellectual passion for the law and our justice system, which has empowered me to thoroughly prepare and argue my cases with skill and competence. Additionally, I understand that my role as an attorney is not only to be competent in my area of law, but to be practical and pragmatic in assisting my client to resolve their case, while communicating with him or her regarding the progress and resolution of his or her case to insure they understand the process and the result. When combined with my work ethic, the qualities that have made me a successful attorney will likewise make me an effective judge is capable and will faithfully and impartially uphold the law.
