SB FY17-37 Phi Mu Alpha Appeal Ayes 9 Nays 7 abstentions 1 Fails i. Senator Montiel Dominguez What is Jazz fest? ii. Malo It is an event Phi Mu puts on to bring high schools around the area to play. iii. Senator Hamilton We can decide to only fund a certain amount if we would like. iv. Senator Highsmith How much was spent at your last Jazz fest? v. Malo That was funded through WAC. I wasn t very involved and I believe it was for around $1500 for 3 people. vi. Senator Williams What was the timeline for everything? vii. Director Scholz Everything was turned in on time. We tabled it and waited until the next meeting. We decided to give them less money because it sounded more like a department event rather than a RSO event. viii. Senator Fuson I believe that this event would bring a lot of students to St. Joseph. And the attendance would be high as the Kansas City Orchestra would usually bring in a lot of people from the community. ix. Assistant Director Stanton I think the senators should think about how much Phi Mu needs for advertising. x. Senator Williams Can you tell me how many Missouri Western Students attended in the past? xi. Malo Around 30 to 40 for sure. But we do have a lot of people come from the community. xii. Senator Dodge I would like to lower the appropriation to $2,650 with $150 appropriated to advertising. xiii. Senator Dodge I move to limit debate to two more minutes on this piece of legislation. Passes xiv. Senator Wilkinson What would happen if you didn t receive this funding? xv. Malo We would not have a headliner for the end of it. xvi. Senator Williams I would say that Phi Mu should have been more organized with this entire event. B. SB FY17-38 Appoint Mallory Saladen as Associate Senator Passed Unanimously i. Senator Dominguez What is the difference in associate senator. ii. President Guy They can t vote. C. SB FY17-39 Appoint Mason Haddock as Associate Senator Passed Unanimously 1 st Reading
A. SB FY17-40 Purchase Power Towers i. Senator Fuson At Capital Projects we saw a problem with students having power to charge their laptops and phones. We are only purchasing two so that we can gauge how much the students are using them. We will be protecting these power towers with outlet box covers that can be locked. ii. Senator Hamilton What is the warranty on the product? iii. Senator Fuson I believe it is three years. iv. Senator Hamilton Have you seen these used in other places? v. Senator Fuson I have seen them on the internet and read reviews about them being used in classrooms. vi. Senator Christensen How many vendors did you look at? vii. Senator Fuson I looked at a lot of them. This one was the best quality of all of the products I looked at. B. SB FY17-41 Removal of Senator i. Guy- Senator Zhang had a time conflict and had to step down for the time being. C. SB FY17-42 RSO Service Engagement Act D. SB FY17-43 GriffsGiveBack Directorship i. Brent Rosenauer This would give some oversight to GriffsGiveBack, ii. Senator Williams Why do they need funding? iii. Rosenauer This is compensation for them to be the director of the program. iv. Sentaor Williams Is there a reason they couldn t already put under the duties of another director? v. Rosenauer This allows the directorship to flourish and it is a very time consuming thing. The other directors are already putting eight hours to their job duties. vi. Senator Hamilton The idea would be that the director would select an assistant director and the assistant director would take over. vii. Assistant Director Stanton Why should you tangle this with GGB with SGA instead of making them another section of student affairs? viii. Rosenauer I believe SGA will help give it a better backing and allowing the office to have a greater longevity. ix. Director Qualls-Woods I think that this should be under the director of student involvement as it would be easier for RSOs. x. Rosenauer This is only a staff level position and would not sit on the exective board for SGA.
IX. E. SB FY17-44 GriffsGiveBack Emergency Funding i. Assistant Director Stanton I move to limit debate and questions to 5 minutes including the reading of the bill. Passed ii. Rosenauer This budget is extremely conservative. I brought this from $10,000 to just below $3000. I believe the t-shirts could be knocked down if any of the line items need to be lowered. iii. Secretary Zorn Have you talked to admissions about funding part of this? iv. Rosenauer They love the idea but they don t have the funding to help. v. Senator Dodge Would you be able to give tools to students to use in volunteering? vi. Rosenauer With how conservative the budget is we wouldn t be able too. F. SB FY17-45 Amend the Funding Act i. President Guy What we are doing here is separating the three areas of funding to slim down the bylaws and make things easier to understand. G. SB FY 17-46 Establish Policy for Travel Funding i. President Guy This is all the same as it was before. It is now reorganized and made easier to follow and change if we need to. H. SB FY 17-47 Establish Policy for Co-Sponsorship Funding i. President Guy We are decreasing the cap for co-sponsorship. We are going to be funding more through appropriations and want to make sure we aren t spending money we don t have. I. SB FY 17-48 Establish Policy for Appropriations Funding i. President Guy Appropriations is a set amount at the beginning of the year. This gives time for RSOs to determine money ahead of time if they submit things earlier. The most any RSO would be able to get is $5000. I would encourage all of you to look at the bill. If you see anything let me know. Open Discussion A. Mallory Saladen I am very grateful for having the chance to become an SGA senator.
