BERMUDA : 51 ABOLITION OF CAPITAL AND CORPORAL PUNISHMENT ACT [Date of Assent 23 December ] [Operative Date 23 December ] WHEREAS it is expedient to amend the Criminal Code to abolish capital and corporal punishment as penalties that may be imposed by a court for an offence and to make consequential amendments to other enactments: Be it enacted by The Queen's Most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Senate and the House of Assembly of Bermuda, and by the authority of the same, as follows: Citation 1 This Act may be cited as the Abolition of Capital and Corporal Punishment Act. Abolition of capital punishment as a penalty for any offence 2 With effect from the date of commencement of this Act, no person shall suffer capital punishment as a penalty that may be imposed by a court for any offence. 1

Abolition of corporal punishment as a penalty for any offence 3 With effect from the date of commencement of this Act, no person shall suffer corporal punishment as a penalty that may be imposed by a court for any offence. Consequential amendments 4 The provisions of the enactments specified in column 1 and described in column 2 of the Schedule are amended in the manner respectively specified in column 3 of the Schedule. 2
