VETERAN VIEWS PAGE 2 FULL-YEAR FUNDING FOR VETERANS Action Alert: Background: Despite reaching a bipartisan compromise on the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, Congress has failed to provide full-year appropriation for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) because of political differences. To avoid another government shutdown Congress now plans to consider a continuing resolution, which would fund the federal government at current levels. While stop-gap appropriations may work for other federal agencies, a continuing resolution fails to provide VA the resources it needs to meet increased health care demands and delivery of benefits. A continuing resolution would also severely limit VA s ability to eliminate the appeals backlog, which would force veterans to wait longer for a decision on their disability compensation claims. VFW Calls on Members to take action. Congress has failed to pass a bill that would properly fund veterans health care and benefits. If Congress does not pass this important bill before September 30, 2016, veterans will be denied the care and benefits they have earned and deserve. Take action tell Congress to prioritize veterans and properly fund VA programs. Woodridge Congressman is Bill Foster District Offices Aurora Office 2711 E New York Street Suite 204 Aurora, IL 60502 phone: 630-585-7672 hours: M-F 9-5:00 PM Joliet Office 195 Springfield Avenue Suite 102 Joliet, IL 60435 phone: (815) 280-5876 hours: M-F 9-5:00 PM Ava Lynne Stiltner Born September 3rd 6 lbs, 13 oz Proud parents Rich and Jenny Stiltner Proud sister Joan Rich is a Post member - Army Veteran - Served in Afghanistan Check out her favorite quilt! VETERAN VIEWS PAGE 3 FREE FLU SHOTS From now through March 31, 2017, all veterans enrolled in the VA health care system can receive free flu shots at any Walgreens or Duane Reade pharmacy. The joint outreach health initiative is designed to help serve veterans closer to where they reside. Veterans must bring their VA identification cards with them, as well as another photo ID, and complete a short fourquestion application, which will be used to automatically update their VA Electronic Health Records. No appointments are necessary. VOTER REGISTRATION The League of Women Voters will be in the Woodridge Library's lobby from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, September 20 and Tuesday, September 27 registering voters for the upcoming presidential election. If you can't attend either of these dates, you can always register to vote by visiting Village Hall during business hours.
