1 I BATES INTER-VARSITY CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP CONSTITUTION Article 1. NAME The name of this organization shall be Bates Christian Feliowship, the Bates College chapter of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. Article II. PURPOSE The purpose of this organization shall be: a. To establish a chapter of Inter.-Varsity Christian Fellowship-USA for members of the Bates community whose doctrinal basis is expressed in the following statements: 1) The unique, divine inspiration, entire trustworthiness and authority of the Bible. 2) The deity of our Lord, Jesus Christ. 3) The necessity and efficacy of the substitutionary death of Jesus Chri st for the redempt ion of the world, and historical fact of His bodily resurrection. 4) The presence and power of the Holy Spirit in the work of regeneration. 5) The expectation of the personal return of our Lord, Jesus Christ. b. To bear witness to the campus that Lord Jesus Christ is God Incarnate, and to seek to lead others to personal faith in Him as the Lord and Savior. c. To deepen and strengthen the spiritual by the study of the Bible, by prayer, lives of students and by Christian Fellowship. d. To present the need to answer God's call mission field, and so help students to role for them, at home or abroad, evangelism. to the foreign discover God's in world-wide February, 1991

2 Article III. MEMBERSHIP I Membersh ip sha 11 be open to all in the Bates community who are interested in the organization's purpose and desire to take part in its program. li Active membership shall be open to those who have participated in at least four events sponsored by the Fellowship during the previous four months in which classes have been in session. Article IV. EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE I a. The Execut ive Commi ttee sha 11 cons ist of a pres ident, secretary, treasurer, and up to two other offi cers as determined to be neccessary by the Nominating Committee. It shall be responsible for coordinating large group and small group programs, and for acquainting new students with the chapter early each semester. b. Members of the Executive Committee shall identify with the defined purpose of this organization as read in Article II. c. Additional officers may be appointed by the Executive Committee as the need arises, and shall act as members of the Executive Committee in matters concerning them. d. An adv isor shall be chosen by the Execut ive Commi ttee where possible. li a. A Nominating Committee shall be called together by the Executive Committee and shall be open to active members who are seniors or who are otherwise not under consideration for service on the Executive Committee. b. The slate of nominees is subject to the approval of a majority of active membership. Lacking this, the Nominating Committee shall reconvene and further consider the candidates until such approval is achieved. d. Newly appointed officers shall assume office on the first day of the second semester. February,

3 ".,..".'.: -, e. The Executive Committee may appoint a person from the membership to any office left vacant in mid-term. III Duties of officers: a. The duties of the president shall be to: coordinate all meet ings; ca 11 to vote; be respons ib 1e for the preparat ion of an annual f inanc ia 1 report and budget; receive and distribute I.V.C.F. mail; maintain contact with other chapters of Inter-Varsity, the faculty coordinator, and the I.V. staff member; and convene the executive committee. b. The dut ies of the sec retary sha 11 be to: keep a record of the minutes of all meetings; send out newsletters and announcements of meet ings; and ma inta in the chapter's membership directory. c. The duties of the treasurer shall be to: maintain the chapter's treasury in accordance with the policies and procedures of the Bates College Business Office; and assist the president in preparing an annual financial report and budget. d. The Executive Committ~e shall meet at least once every two weeks. Article V. MEETINGS I General purpose meetings that further shall be held weekly the chapter's while school stated is in session. Sect ion I II III Article VI. CONSTITUTION AND AMENDMENTS This constitution shall be adopted upon receiving a two-thirds vote of the total active membership. Amendments of this constitution may be passed only by a two-th irds vote of the tota 1 act ive membership. Proposed amendments must be announced at least one week prior to a vote. Amendments to th is const itut ion shall not become valid until approved by the Extra-Curricular Activities Committee of Bates College and Inter- Varsity Christian Fellowship of the United States of America. After the installation of the new Executive Committee, the previous Executive Committee shall be available to that Committee for advisory purposes. Article V. MEETINGS 1. General meetings that further the chapter's stated purpose shall be held weekly while school is in session. Article VI. CONSTITUTION AND AMENDMENTS section 1.
