1 Article I ---- Name Article II ---- Purpse SALSA CLUB CONSTITUTION Cnstitutin f the "Salsa Club" The name f this rganizatin shall be "Salsa " The purpse f this rganizatin shall be t prmte student invlvement in the salsa dance in the fllwing frms: Teaching Members will be given ample pprtunity t expand their salsa dancing Practicing Enjying skills thrugh instructinal meetings knwn as Instructinal Sessins. The purpse f the Instructinal Sessins shall be t encurage new and experienced members t learn t salsa dance and t expand their dance repertire. During these Instructinal Sessins, members shall receive instructin frm tw surces: Instructr A prfessinal salsa instructr shall lead all Instructinal Sessins f the Salsa The instructr will allw club members t expand their abilities by teaching members new techniques and steps each instructinal meeting. Members All members will aid ther members in learning whenever and hwever pssible thrughut all meetings f the Salsa Members shall be given ample pprtunity t practice salsa dancing thrughut the semester in a fun, relaxed envirnment that encurages learning, enjyment f the perfrming arts, and appreciatin f freign cultures. Fllwing each Instructinal Sessins, there shall be a perid f Free Dance in which members are encuraged t reinfrce what they have learned and practice what they already knw. Additinal Free Dance meetings shall be scheduled at the cnvenience and request f members f the Salsa

2 Article III ---- Membership The Salsa Club shall prmte a relaxed, psitive envirnment in which all members shall be encuraged t practice their salsa dancing withut judgment r peer pressure. Members will be encuraged t invite new members t jin the Salsa Club, regardless f skill level. Membership in this rganizatin will be pen t the Lafayette Cmmunity. Each member will be expected t have an interest in learning t salsa dance r t imprve their skill as salsa dancers. Members will be expected t be active participants f the club by participating in at least fur (4) Instructinal Sessins and fur (4) Free Dance sessins per semester. Each member must register their participatin with the schl and will als be expected t cnduct themselves in a curteus and safe manner that creates a friendly, fun envirnment fr all members and ptential members. Article IV ---- Officers Sectin 1: Definitins f Officers The fficers f this rganizatin shall be: President Vice President Treasurer The President shall: Be respnsible fr the success and cntinuatin f the Salsa Ensure that fficers are elected r reelected each year. Ensure that ther fficers are perfrming their duties. Be the pint-f-cntact between the Salsa Club and the Instructr(s). Be the pint-f-cntact between the Salsa Club and Lafayette Student Gvernment, r any representative f Lafayette Cllege. Be respnsible fr scheduling Instructinal Sessins and Free Dance sessins. The Vice President shall: Be respnsible fr recruiting new members t the Salsa Be the pint-f-cntact between the Salsa Club and ther Lafayette clubs and rganizatins. Be the Safety Officer f the Salsa The Treasurer shall: Keep recrd f all financial transactins f the Salsa Be respnsible fr maintaining, mnitring, and renewing the budget f the Salsa

3 Secretary The Secretary shall: Be respnsible fr cmmunicating with members f the Salsa Be respnsible fr maintaining the list f members f the Salsa Sectin 2: Electin f Officers Maintain a recrd f when, where, and whm attended each meeting f the Salsa This recrd shall serve as the Meeting Minutes. All fficers shall be elected r reelected at the end f April. Each newly elected r reelected fficer shall take ffice at the beginning f the fllwing fall semester. Each fficer shall hld their ffice fr tw (2) semesters prvided he r she is nt impeached and remved frm ffice. Each candidate r fficer seeking reelectin shall infrm the President f their candidacy at least ten (10) days befre electins will take place. Electins shall take place at a meeting f the Salsa Electins shall take place via shw f hands, but vters must be active members Members shall be ntified at least seven (7) days befrehand when and where electins will be ccurring. Each member and fficer f the Salsa Club present at electins shall receive ne (1) vte per ffice, prvided they are nt running fr that ffice. Example: If a member is running fr the ffice f Treasurer, he r she shall nt be allwed t vte fr the electin f the Treasurer. He r she, hwever, will receive ne (1) vte fr the electin f the President, ne (1) vte fr the electin f the Vice President, and ne (1) vte fr the electin f the Secretary. The President shall tally all f the vtes nly after all ballts have been cast. The Vice President shall verify the tally befre the results are annunced. The results shall be annunced t the club at the meeting where electins are ccurring and ver t the entire member list. Sectin 3: Impeachment f Officers If an fficer is fund t be: Nt perfrming his/her duties n multiple ccasins. Cnducting himself/herself in an unprfessinal manner n multiple ccasins. A frmal warning shall be sent t the ffending fficer by the President, with all ther fficers carbn cpied (CC d) n the If the fficer fails t crrect his r her behavir, anther frmal warning shall be sent t the ffending fficer by the President, with all ther fficers

4 carbn cpied n the . And if pssible, the ffending fficer shall be given a verbal warning by the President, with all ther fficers present. If the fficer fails t crrect his r her behavir after the tw described warnings, the President shall hld an Impeachment Electin. In the Impeachment Electin, each nn-ffending fficer shall receive ne (1) yay r nay impeachment vte. Fr an fficer t be successfully impeached, all nn-ffending fficers must vte yay. If the ffending fficer has been successfully impeached, they are immediately remved frm ffice. The President shall hld Emergency Electins at the earliest pssible pprtunity. Members shall be ntified f the impeachment f the fficer, the nw vacant ffice, and when and where the Emergency Electins will be held at least seven (7) days in advance. Candidates fr the vacant ffice will identify themselves at least three (3) days befre the Emergency Electins t the President. Emergency Electins will be held in the same manner as annual fficer electins. If the President is being impeached, the Vice President shall perfrm the abve listed rles f the President during the impeachment prcess, and assume the ffice f President upn successful impeachment f the President. The fllwing Emergency Electins shall be t elect a new Vice President. Article V ---- Meetings Sectin 1: General Meetings This rganizatin shall meet at least eight times a mnth. Meetings shall be scheduled at the cnvenience f the Instructr and the cnvenience f the majrity f the members. At least ne fficer r Instructr must be in attendance at each meeting. Sectin 2: Executive Bard Meetings The executive bard shall meet at the discretin f the president. There shall be a minimum f at least tw (2) executive bard meetings a semester. Article VI ---- Prcedure Each meeting f this rganizatin shall be started and cncluded by the highest ranking fficer. The President has the highest rank. The Vice President has the secnd highest rank. The Treasurer has the third highest rank. The Secretary has the lwest rank. If n fficer is present at a meeting, an Instructr will be authrized t start and cnclude the meeting. Each meeting will be started by the highest ranking fficer welcming all attending members t the meeting and identifying the gals f the meeting. Each member will be

5 directed t sign in at each f meeting f the Salsa Club t identify and recrd all attending members r any new members. Each meeting will be cncluded by the highest ranking fficer thanking all attending members fr attending and infrming the members f any near future events f the Salsa Article VII ---- Safety and Risk Management All members f the Salsa Club will be required t sign a participatin waiver, stating they are vluntarily jining the Salsa Club and will nt hld the Lafayette Salsa Club, r any f its members, fficers, instructrs, r members f Lafayette Cllege respnsible fr any injury sustained during any Lafayette Salsa Club activity r meeting. The Vice President will be respnsible fr cllecting, maintaining, and keeping all waivers. Hazing is als nt tlerated by the Lafayette Salsa Club and will nt take place in any way, shape, r frm. Article VIII ---- Amendments This cnstitutin may be amended by at least three-quarters majrity vte f the fficers.
