3 Voting Qualifications In order to vote in U.S. elections you must be 18 years old Resident of the state you re voting in Citizen of the U.S. Registered to vote

4 Who Votes? People eligible to vote are called the electorate People s voting rights will be denied if If you were convicted of a felony in Washington State your right to vote is restored as long as you are not under the authority (in prison or on community custody) of the Department of Corrections (DOC). 6 Why Should I Vote? The right to vote is considered to be our greatest freedom People should exercise their right to vote because it allows citizens to Choose their govt. leaders Elect new leaders if dissatisfied with performance of current leaders Express their opinions on public issues

7 Where Do I Vote? Precincts/Districts Each address is assigned to a specific precinct number Each precinct has specific locations where its residents go to vote (polling stations) Can find precinct number here: (if registered) However In Thurston County we mail in our Ballots

8 What is the text of the 26th Amendment? Section 1 The right of citizens of the United States, who are eighteen years of age or older, to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of age. (Any American citizen that is 18 years of age or older may register to vote and participate in any election.) Section 2 The Congress shall have the power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation. (Congress is tasked with preventing violations of the law that would prevent 18 year olds from voting or voting discrimination against voters due to their age)
