PROPER NOTICE HAS BEEN POSTED AND GIVEN TO THE PRESS IN ACCORDANCE WITH WIS. STATUTES SO THE CITIZENRY MAY BE AWARE OF THE TIME, PLACE AND AGENDA OF THE MEETING. 2 New London Library and Museum Board of Director s Regular Meeting- November 19, 2018 President Ron Steinhorst called the regular meeting to order at 5:04 p.m. Present: Chris Bermann, Ginny Schlais, Betty Roberts, Judy McDaniel, Bill Flease, Mary Dickrell, Library Director - Ann Hunt, Museum Director Christine Cross. Others Present: Connie Zolkoske, Mike Huzzar, Brenda Hansen Public Comment None. Secretary s Report Motion was made by Bermann/McDaniel to accept the minutes of the October 15, 2018, meeting. Motion carried. Financial Reports Motion made by Bermann/Dickrell to approve the November financial reports for the New London Public Library bills amounting to $18, and the New London Public Museum bills amounting to $3, Library income for the month of November is $2, and the museum income for the month of November is $2, Motion carried. Museum Director s Report See attached report. Library Director s Report See attached report. Unfinished Business Discussion/Action 1. Fundraising Update: There have been two meetings with James Hamilton from McDonald Shaefer to discuss fundraising for the library/museum project. Committee members are Ann Hunt, Christine Cross, Connie Zolkoske, Brenda Hansen, and Betty Roberts. James will speak to community leaders to determine fundraising possibilities and if the project should be split into two separate fundraising projects library first, then museum. 2. Development Discussion/Financing Options: Timing of the new library building may be moved ahead one year. Application to WHEDA for funding is due next month. It has been determined that it may be more advantageous to wait another year to file an application. Randy Stadtmueller will discuss this possibility at the November 27 Economic Development Committee. New Business Discussion/Action 1. Joint Meeting of the Boards: A joint meeting of the Library/Museum Board, the Friends of the Library Board, and the Friends of the Museum Board will be held on December 17, Randy Stadtmueller and James Hamilton will be present to speak to all Board members regarding the project and fundraising. 2. Budget Adjustment/Library: There is a surplus in the book budget this year. Ann would like to use the extra funds to do some needed maintenance: updating two drinking fountains, replacing the mats at the entrance, and purchasing a bookcase for a Lucky Day Collection. Motion by Schlais/McDaniel to approve use of the extra funds for maintenance. Motion carried.

3 3. Substitute for the Library: Because one of the library employees is on medical leave, there may be a need for a substitute until she returns. Motion by Bermann/Flease to approve the hiring of another employee at a library assistant level. Motion carried. Adjourn Motion by Dickrell/Bermann to adjourn. Motion carried. 8 New London Public Museum Monthly report for the December 17, 2018 Board meeting November 2018 Attendance: 329 November 2017 Attendance: 206 Adults: 123 Teens: 11 Children: 68 Tours/Events: 127 The purpose of the New London Public Museum is to preserve and promote our community s natural, native and historical culture for the benefit of the public. Programs The December 15 vintage movie was Miracle on 34 th Street Wendy is preparing a craft and project day to correspond with our Star Wars exhibit. It will be on Sat. Dec. 29 from 10:30-12 in the meeting room. We welcomed a number of tours in November including 4K classes, Girl Scouts and 1 st Graders from Lincoln. Exhibits The Star Wars traveling exhibit, sponsored by the Friends of the New London Public Museum, runs through January 26, Administration The museum will be closed for the holidays Dec and Dec. 31-Jan. 1 FNLPM The Friends of the New London Public Museum hosted a members only exhibit preview for the Star Wars exhibit around 20 people attended. Everyone involved felt that this would give the respective parties time to collect the data they need and get everything together to submit a winning proposal. Fines More and more libraries in the system are talking about eliminating fines for materials. They are especially concerned about children s materials. A librarian gave a TED talk that you may be interested in. Here is the link to that talk anguage=en I think we need to reexamine the elimination of fines in the new year. Programs The Arizona animals caught on the trail cam program turned out to be a very entertaining and interesting program for the 15 people who attended. We had two sessions of cookie decorating with 30 people. Piggly Wiggly graciously donated the cookies and icing for this program. Santa visited the children s department. Not as many children came to visit as past years but I have seen Santa is visiting 13 places in the next two weeks. Upcoming programs include, a pizza party in the children s department. Kids will learn how to make pizzas using tortillas and other ingredients. Learn the art of ice fishing and learn how to make book art in the adult department in January.
