Biographical Note Elmer Chester Huntley was born in 1915 and died in Mr. Huntley served as Washington State Representative from the 9th District for five terms from 1956 to He served as Chairman of the State Highway Commission. He was elected to the State Senate in 1966 and served there until He was a member of the committees of Agriculture and Horticulture, Highways, Ways and Means (Appropriations), Higher Education and Libraries, and Commerce and Regulatory Agencies. He was appointed to the National Highway Safety Advisory Committee in 1970 by President Nixon. He was actively involved in local affairs. He was the Grand master of Masons in Washington and Alaska. Content Description The papers of Elmer Huntley at the Libraries of Washington State University consist of subject files, constituent correspondence, various reports, and enclosures, as well as personal financial papers. The majority of the papers are from Huntley's service in the State Senate, during the years Use of the Collection 1

Administrative Information Arrangement The papers are filed according to the legislative terms, which was the original filing scheme. Some unfiled items were placed in logical places in the filing arrangement. The papers from the various legislative terms form five of six series: 1. before 1965, to 1967, to 1969, to 1971, and to Series 6. consists of personal financial records. A few government related papers dated after 1973 are interfiled in series 5. Acquisition Information Papers of Elmer Huntley of Thornton, Washington, former member of the Washington State Legislature, were donated to the Washington State University Libraries in 1971, 1972, 1973, 1982, 1989 and 1994 by Mr. Huntley.
