Description 1-story masonry, rectangular plan with load-bearing red brick walls; hip standing seam metal roof; limestone cornice and four massive Doric pilasters; windows are 12/12 wood double-hung with limestone lintels; granite entry stairs; federal cast metal modillions on meiin facade. Entry doors have probably been altered with modern glass and aluminum entry. Landscaping has been replaced during recent renovation. 11. Present Condition Good; recently renovated. 12. Significance Unorthodox variation of common Post Office plan. The hip roof is uncommon as are the Tuscan Doric pilasters. Nominated to the National Register. Currently being renovated as Federal 13. We concur in this move. As you are aware, we have considered this small building as eligible for listing and have treated i t as significant. This is indicated by our cooperation with your office in the current rehabilitation and modernization required to convert this old Post Office Building to a Federal Court House. General Services Administration will continue to conform to Section 106 and allow the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to have an opportunity to comment on all future projects in this building.
