1 National Nominating Committee 2018 Fall Board of Directors Report Members The National Nominating Committee (NNC) welcomed five new members in the year: Graduate Program Representative, Theresa Cluse-Tolar; Graduate Program Representative, Victoria Rizzo; Undergraduate Program Representative, Daria Hanssen; Undergraduate Faculty Representative, Elizabeth Dungee-Anderson, Undergraduate Faculty Representative, Alice Locklear. Eight NNC members continued from last year: Lirio Negroni, Chair, Graduate Program Representative Karen Bullock, Undergraduate Program Representative Tracy Mims, Undergraduate Program Representative Manoj Pardasani, Graduate Program Representative Tonya Perry, Graduate Faculty Representative Cecilia Thomas, Undergraduate Program Representative Halaevalu Vakalahi, Graduate Faculty Representative Joan Zlotnik, Practice Representative This year, the National Nominating Committee decided to move up the election cycle timeline to increase nominations and ensure that the committee had adequate time to develop the slates. This shift allowed the committee to draft the slates during the National Nominating Committee s in-person meeting at Annual Program Meeting (APM). Call for Nominations The Call for Nominations was sent to all members in an announcement in August. An additional announcement was sent out in September with a focus on the chair-elect position. On September 18, a reminder was sent to all membership, and a final reminder was sent on September 26. Nominations were due on October 10. Nominations were submitted though the FluidReview system. The online nomination form included demographic information, contact information, statement of interest, and a current CV. Summary of Nominees There were 23 nominations brought forth by the membership for the 2018 election through the FluidReview system. Of those nominated, 16 advanced to the final slate. The remaining 6 nominations were brought to the floor from members of the National Nominating Committee. Selecting the Slate NNC Chair Lirio Negroni held a pre-apm conference call on September 28 th to review the agenda for the APM meeting and discussed the process for developing the double slates. The 1

2 NNC met in person on Thursday, October 19 th at the CSWE APM in Dallas, TX to draft the double slates of nominees. On November 16 th, the NNC met via conference call to confirm the slates. The slates followed CSWE s Affirmative Action Policy requiring that 50% of the slate be composed of under-represented groups. For purposes of the Affirmative Action Policy, underrepresented groups include but are not limited to women; African Americans/other Blacks; Asian Americans, Pacific Islanders; Chicano/Mexican Americans, Puerto Ricans, other Latinos(as)/Hispanics; Native Americans/American Indians; persons with disabilities; and gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender persons. The NNC also considered geographical representation and micro/macro focus. There were 11 vacancies on the 2018 election slate: Board of Directors 1 Chair-elect 1 Vice Chair/Secretary 2 Graduate Faculty Representatives 1 Undergraduate Faculty Representative 1 Practice Representative National Nominating Committee 1 Graduate Program Representative 2 Undergraduate Program Representatives 2 Graduate Faculty Representatives Petitioning The Slate and procedures for petitioning were distributed to the membership via , on the CSWE website Petitions were due February 19, No petitions were received. Voting The election was conducted electronically through CSWE s Zarca system. Linda Plitt Donaldson, a CSWE member from Catholic University, served as the election teller. To be eligible to vote as an individual member in the CSWE 2018 election, members must have been a full and current member on March 6, Voting opened on April 9, Members eligible to vote received an with the electronic ballot and voting instructions. Members with no address or an invalid address received a letter via U.S. Mail with a link to their voting category's ballot and their unique registration code. Voting closed May 4, Election results were posted in late May (see Table 1). Thirty six percent (36.2%) of eligible voters participated in the 2018 election (see Table 2), which was an increase from 2016 &

The subcommittees convened around; 1) addressing conflicts of interest for nominees 2) procedure review for the National Nominating Committee 3) voter turnout in CSWE s elections. The subcommittees developed recommendations and framework for the National Nominating Committee to strengthen the election process. Bylaws Revision In early 2018, the NNC chair Lirio Negroni had a conference call with Darla Spence Coffey and Board Chair, Barbara Shank to discuss the election cycle and ways to support a closer working relationship between the governance groups. Scenarios were presented on ways to increase dialogue and collaboration within the BOD s bylaws revisions. This prompted discussion about ways to increase strengthen the relationship while still maintaining the NNC s purpose and structure. It was decided that the bylaws revision would include adding two Board of the Director s to the National Nominating Committee as ex-officio members. The bylaws revisions were approved in June. 4
