2 NOMINATIONS The purpose of the Claflin University Hall of Fame is to recognize and honor Claflin University alumni and other persons who have made significant contributions to society and brought credit to Claflin University. Eligible for nomination are alumni of Claflin University, former or present teachers/administrators, graduates and non-graduates, and other persons who, through service and/or philanthropy, have made notable contributions to the University. Nominations should include nominee s name and address, a brief biographical sketch, and a concise description of the achievements which nomination is based. Nominees must be either graduates of Claflin University or individuals who have made significant contributions to the institution. A non-alumnus may be inducted into the Hall of Fame who has contributed to Claflin University through philanthropy and/or intellectual affiliation. Nominations for induction in the Claflin University Hall of Fame may be made by an individual or alumni chapter of individuals meeting Hall of Fame criteria. All nominations must be on the official Claflin University Hall of Fame Nomination Form. If additional forms are needed, please make a copy of the Nomination Form. Type or print using black ink. Complete the Nomination Form in its entirety. Consideration will only be given to nominees with completed forms. (NO EXCEPTIONS). If additional space is needed to complete the Nomination Form, please type or print on separate page. (Please reference appropriate question.) Limit each nomination to one category per form. Submit a separate form for each nomination. The Hall of Fame Committee will make its recommendations based solely on information provided on the Nomination Form. Resumes` and biographical sketches can be submitted as supporting documentation but will not be considered as an official nomination.

3 CRITERIA A. Achievements that have strengthened Claflin University and advanced its purpose. B. Achievements that have enhanced the nominee s reputation at a local, regional, national, or international level. C. Achievements that have contributed to public appreciation of Claflin University. D. Achievements in nominee s field that benefited others at a regional, national or international level. The honoree must be present to receive the award. The honoree is presented with a handsome medal bearing the Hall of Fame insignia, together with a framed citation, and the honoree s portrait is placed in the Hall of Fame, temporarily housed in Tingley Memorial Hall. 4 NOMINEES Nominees are presented each year for induction in the Claflin University Hall of Fame. Outstanding individuals may be inducted each year from each of the following categories: A. Arts and Entertainment B. Business C. Communication D. Community Services E. Education F. Government and Law G. Medicine H. Military I. Philanthropy J. Religion K. Science 2017 SPECIAL ONE YEAR EXCEPTION Normally, no more than eight individuals may be inducted annually. However, in celebration of our alumni who have served so faithfully and courageously in the military; and in recognition of our new Veterans Monument which has been erected on the campus, this year the committee will make a one year exception to select up to 5 Claflin Alumni from The Class of Military to be inducted into the Claflin University Hall of Fame in the Class of DEADLINE All nominations must be received by August 15, The Claflin University Hall of Fame Committee ATTN: Rev Whittaker V.
