1 Utah State Core Curriculum for Secondary Social Studies, US History Identify reasons for the establishment of colonies in America Examine the rise of American culture in the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies. Course Description Understanding United States history is essential for the continuation of our democratic society. This course will help students make connections between their world and the rich heritage of United States history. The course is designed as a survey of American history with an emphasis on post- Reconstruction American (1876- Present), but should include a review of the earlier period. The course can be taught using a thematic approach or in chronological order. Standard 1 Students will expand their knowledge of pre-reconstruction America.
