Court Suspends Military Arrest Powers Egypt s Administrative Court suspended on Tuesday Decree No issued by the Minister of Justice s to grant arrest powers to Military Police and Military Intelligence. The court decided to suspend the decree after examining the appeals filed by 12 human rights group against the decree issued on June 13. The court explained in its decision that the law gives the Minister of Justice jurisdictions to grant powers of arrest only to the relevant public servants, however, these powers cannot be extended to army personnel who only submit to decisions issued by the Military Justice Authority. The court also determined that the Minister of Justice does not have the power to assign army soldiers and stated that his decree is ambiguous because it does not determine whether civilians arrested would be referred to military or civilian prosecution. El-Baradei and El-Beblawi Refuse to Lead New Government Youm 7 newspaper received information which confirms that President Mohamed Morsi is going to keep El-Ganzouri s government temporarily until negotiations over the new government come to an end. Negotiations with Dr. Mohamed El-Baradei, former chief of the IAEA, Dr. Hazem Al- Beblawi, former vice prime minister, and Dr. Farouk Al-Okda, Central Bank governor, have all failed as they refused to lead the new government. The decision to keep El-Ganzouri s government would be until a national figure appears and approves the position of the prime minister. If El-Baradei agreed, this will be a safe exit for the crisis of naming the new prime minister, as President Morsi had promised to choose an independent figure for the position. 17

25 Internet Coverage (27/6/2012) Facebook We Are All Khaled Saeed: The Administrative Court will determine the fate of the judicial seizure law within hours and postpones a case to suspend the Complementary Constitutional Declaration to July 10. Egyptian cabinet National rescue government, headed by PM Kamal El-Ganzouri, submitted its resignation yesterday. The government is requested to resume its tasks until the President forms a new government. PM Kamal El-Ganzouri held a meeting to discuss the methods to provide fuel to citizens in the market in the upcoming two months, particularly in Ramadan. Muslim brotherhood Freedom and Justice Party General Conference to Convene Special Session to Choose New Chairman Dr. Essam El-Erian, Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Vice-Chairman, denied as false news that have been circulating through the media claiming he has taken the FJP chairman post. He explained that he is still in his FJP vice-chairman post. Dr. Erian assured that the selection of a party leader, according to the FJP s regulations and internal charter, is the prerogative of the FJP s General Conference, and that so far no date has been set for the convening of this conference. Dr. Erian added that a statement on the subject posted on the FJP s official website was the fault of an editor, and that the matter is currently under investigation. Freedom and Justice Party: MPs Views Do Not Reflect Party nor Presidential Institution Dr. Osama Yassin, Assistant Secretary-General of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP), asserted that all statements issued by party members or MP s of the People s Assembly or the Shura Council (the two houses of Egyptian parliament), in respect of the program of the President of the Republic or the formation of the presidential institution, are merely personal views that do not reflect the official position of the FJP or the President of Egypt. 25

26 Dr. Yassin stressed that the FJP s Executive Office is the entity authorized to issue official statements that reflect the position of the FJP, and the Presidency of the Republic is the authority that speaks on behalf of the President. I support the call to appoint Dr. Heba Raouf Ezzat as a vice president. Congratulations on the court s decision to suspend military arrest powers! We will keep pursuing other decisions. I am attending now a meeting for the National Front for Continuing the Revolution with many prominent intellectuals and The root issues from which our world's problems spring are not political or social or economic, but philosophical in nature. Much of our world's problem stem from a quantity culture. We need a quality culture. If you're not worried about the economy, then you haven't been paying attention. Much optimism is simply inexperience. To have true experience and yet be optimistic is where it's at. If your beliefs are rock solid, then ask yourself - are they stepping stones, or are they walls? When we are born, we are paradigm-free. Then we have one inculcated into us. The wise among us try to become paradigm-free again. Paradigms are prisons, but without them nothing makes sense. Relinking (with request for comment): #Syria's Impasse (infographic/decision tree): For every million vividly describing the messes we're in, there's barely one talking about solutions. Worst yet, that one-in-a-million voice talking solutions will get no audience coz everyone likes the vivid descriptions better. 26

27 I am optimistic about our journey. But I do not delude myself as to how difficult it would be to get there. I tried to find some #Sudan "loyalists" (you know, hear the other side?) - felt like I was reading from the #ArabTyrantManual.#SudanRevolts Turkey sends military units to the border with Bloggers now realize the truth about Wael Qandil, a writer, thank God I never read any of his articles or got to know his opinion. He is one of the superficial figures who took unnecessary attention after the revolution. It s a shame that you accept that your fellow Egyptian gets beaten in a police station because you have someone inside the Police who helps you finish what you want without even bothering to go to a police station. It s a shame to claim that you stand up for justice and equality, while all what you do is participate in some charitable activity to help people you usually disrespect. 27
