In his career of over 22 years, he has been associated with numerous social & business activities. All of his activities were aimed at improving the conditions of the society and to generate employment. 3
SOCIAL ACTIVITIES Since inception of his career, M. U. Dua was involved in multifaceted activities. He early in his career was asked to become the Secretary of Republic Housing Co-Operative society at Patna, Bihar. His administrative skills ensured the early completion of the co-operative society work. After seeing the deteriorated social conditions of the society, M.U. Dua had conceived the idea of creating All India Human Rights Association in 1987, and got the same Registered under Societies Registration Act. The object of the society is to work with dedication for the noble cause of Human Rights Protection and Promotion, provide Justice for All, Economic upliftment of the underprivileged, providing education, love, peace and harmony and friendship, national and international integration by exchange of ideas and ethos amongst neighbouring countries and the people of the rest of the world. In the year 2004, M.U. Dua had undertaken and successfully completed a 70-days Human Rights Awareness journey, traveling in 22 States of the Indian Union, including Nepal. M.U. Dua had paraded his team of social activists to a number of districts, blocks and talukas. Met a number of clusters of Adivasi people and supported them to mitigate their crises. M.U. Dua was also instrumental in restoring the hutments of 2, 00,000 people from the private builders who otherwise would have destroyed them and built skyscrapers. This he had done in collaboration with the 4
District Administration by raising voice against the Private Builders and taking the cases of real plight of the inhabitants to the Government. Again, M.U. Dua, had embarked on a world s first 200-days journey mainly to spread awareness of Universal Declaration of Human Rights and bringing about cultural integration. This journey had begun on the Republic Day, i.e. 26 th January 2006 and culminated on the Independence Day (15 th August 2006). In this journey, he had covered 33 States in India, besides seven SAARC Member Countries Maldives, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and Pakistan, covering a distance of around fifty thousand kilometers on road. This journey was flagged by the then Director of United Nations Information Centre s Director. During his yatra, he had met all the Panchayat Presidents and supported them in various ways. He had spent most of his precious life time with the people, listening to their plight and wherever possible brought relief to them. He had organized a number of nukkad sabhas in association with the Panchayats, which had resulted in sorting out many disputes. He had traveled the entire criss-cross of the country, Kashmir to Kanyakumari, and Cuttack to Kohima. He understands the real plight of the downtrodden. Under National Legal Services Authority, M.U. Dua has been the Ex-officio member of the Delhi Legal Services Authority. He was instrumental in creating a number of legal aid centres in the Delhi, Jharkand, Kashmir, Kanyakumar, Punjab, etc. Out of over 7,50,000 5
civil cases registered, by sheer conciliation proceedings, he could with the help of legal advisors solved over 2,50,000 cases without taking them to courts. The types of cases he had sorted out on conciliation proceedings, among others, include, relationship disputes, money / inheritance disputes, senior citizen disputes, women issues, sexual harassment, dowry harassment, gender discrimination, sibling conflicts, matrimonial disputes, to mention a few. He has the charisma to pull crowd on sheer hard work. Since he is connected with the real needy people, he has considered a messiah of poor and downtrodden people. He shares his wisdom to the national and international fora wherever he is invited to attend to. By appreciating his good Samaritan work, United Nations, New York, had affiliated All India Human Rights Association, New Delhi. M.U. Dua has been organizing International summit on 10 th December every year on the occasion of the World s Human Rights Day on various subjects related to Human Rights. He had organized such summits in auditoria, viz., Siri Fort, Talkatora, ITPO, Bhai Das Auditorium in Mumbai, Kanyakumari, Punjab and various other States. In the sojourn of 21 years, M.U. Dua had associated with AIHRA the personalities, viz., Late Shri Giani Zail Singhji, ex-president of India (first Chair Person of AIHRA), eminent Jurists, leading advocates, retired civil servants, journalists and social activists. Currently, AIHRA boasts of 157 Units spread across 32 States of 6
Indian Union with approximately 23,000 members. Besides, AIHRA has representation in UK, Canada, USA and other countries. M.U. Dua was the inspirational source for creating National Human Rights Commission, since his was the first Registered NGO on Human Rights in Asia. He had brought the apathy of downtrodden to light, which had resulted in certain Acts, viz., Child Labour Act, Right to Information Act, Domestic Violence Act. M.U. Dua, a muti-faceted personality, a businessman, a social activist from college days, a philanthropist and a true family person, had blended all the roles without much demur and has been active in meeting all sorts of people in the clusters of various villages. As a social activist and a media person, he was invited by a number of national and international bodies to speak on human values and the plight of citizens of the country. He has been rendering speech on various issues consecutively for the past three years at the Brahma Kumari Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya in Mount Abu. M.U. Dua also publishes a fortinightly multi-colour AIHRA Human Rights magazine and writes on social apathies and suggests remedies also. He has a deeper concern for health and medicare activities. In this context, he had formed a charitable body registered in the name of Dua Global Trust, which had already opened a unit of Dua Medicare Centre in east Delhi to treat the 7
poors, absolutely free of cost. His wife, a medical doctor, renders her social service in this unit. M.U. Dua also appreciates the need for spreading literacy among socially and economically weaker section of the society. He, under the banner of All India Human Rights Association, has been running a number of Free Literacy Camps in various parts of the Country. It is giving excellent results in JJ clusters (slum) and among downtroddens. In sum, he is the man with greater wisdom as he spent his precious life time in the midst of those whose sufferings are yet to be mitigated by the Democratic Secular Country of this magnitude and vastness. He is a man of principles and dedication. Connecting and networking with people is his passion. BUSINESS ACTIVITIES M. U. Dua has also actively contributed a lot towards the economic and social development of the nation.
