CHRIS LEATHER NORTHAM

ROGER DARCH TORRINGTON RURAL Willoughby Cottage, 54 New Street,Torrington, Devon, EX388BS tel: Roger was born and bred in Great Torrington where the family ran a butchers shop in New Street. He was educated in Torrington, Bideford and Reading University gaining a B.Sc. in Estate Management and continuing further studies at the Open University. Roger is a serving Torrington Town Councillor and a Torridge District Councillor. He will be a steady pair of hands, having a wealth of business and management experience in housing, health and social care. He is very active in the town and has been able to help, through the Community Grants Scheme; Torrington Silver Band, The Plough Arts Centre, Torrington in Bloom and other worthwhile charity and voluntary organisations. Roger is motivated by a strong desire for the better well being of all our communities of Torrington Rural, economically, socially and in terms of adequate and continuing local health provision. Roger s message:- I have a strong non-discriminatory ethic and believe that everyone has much to contribute to society. I have a positive outlook and prefer to think my cup is half full rather than half empty. Problems are there to be solved and co-operation is often the key to a successful resolution. Families and community working together are so important and I will always seek to uphold and build on our rich village and town traditions. Modernisation and changes cannot be held back but the things which make our communities strong should not be abandoned. My pledges to you are:-

1. To fight against the proposed cuts to our acute health services, loss of our community beds and the increased stress, travelling and associated cost this means for family and friends. 2. To listen to and represent your concerns and to seek possible answers and solutions. 3. Seek to address the funding inequalities suffered by our schools and the poor maintenance provisions towards the upkeep of our roads. 4. To campaign against the retreat of banks and professional services from our towns and to encourage local spending and support our shops and traders as they contend with rate and rent increases. 5. I will work in support of our much valued Fishing and Farming communities, working to secure proper funding arrangements. 6. I support the provision of affordable new housing to satisfy local needs of our young families. I will resist further housing without adequate forward infrastructure provision in place, to meet the demands made on our roads, schools, health, bus and telephone services. 7. To encourage the voluntary groups, within Torrington Rural, helping to combat the increased isolation and vulnerability that many of our residents now feel. 8. To work with youth organisations as they help our young people grow into well rounded citizens. Young people are our future and I will encourage their greater involvement in the life of our town halls and parish councils. Your Voice Your Vote May 4 th 2017 Roger Darch Democracy let s make it work, together let s make the difference. SAM ROBINSON BIDEFORD EAST 21 Bude Street, Appledore, Bideford, EX39 1PS. Tel.: (01237) sande.bhouse@outlook.com. Sam is married to Eithne and they have two grown-up children and four grand children. A former light engineering

technician, teacher, housemaster and headmaster, Sam has long experience of serving our community as a County, District and Town Councillor. What Sam believes in and stands for:- My principles have not altered. Though circumstances may have changed and the threats to our community and way of life may have taken on new aspects, whenever I make promises I work hard to fulfil my undertakings. My pledges to you are:- While recognising that an acceptable amount of development is needful to provide for a growing population, I will continue to oppose development where adequate, up-front provision is not made for infrastructure improvements, the funding of community transport links, and a meaningful proportion of all house building to provide for affordable, local needs housing. Though I abhor the degradation of our beautiful countryside by the proliferation of mammoth, industrial-sized and relatively inefficient wind turbines, I recognise the value of small-scale turbines in providing energy to farming communities. While I have campaigned for the county council to set an example to the whole county by providing solar energy and by ensuring that photo-voltaic equipment is installed in all new county council buildings at the development stage, I continue to oppose the installation of poorly-sited, intrusive, industrial-sized acreages of solar energy arrays. I have also advocated consistently for R & D on tidal and hydro energy capture. The youth of our country are our nation s hopes for the future. Whether it be campaigning to have a school roof replaced, supporting the provision of additional facilities for local centres, part-funding the purchase of equipment for our pipe bands, rowing clubs, football clubs and other community endeavours, or backing the initiative for the major refurbishment of our Community Centre, I have used and will continue to use every opportunity to help our young people. My time commitment to my communities has been and will continue to be full-time. While I may sit on a number of different county council committees and will be involved in the business of a number of working groups, I have always been diligent in attending and contributing to the work of the Bideford Town Council and all the

Parish Councils in my electoral division, and I am prompt in responding to all requests for assistance or guidance from residents. In any conflict between Party or Group and the best interests of our communities I have always and I will continue to take the side of our communities. In working for the communities is Sam s greatest motivation; Winning for our people is his greatest delight. NIGEL JOHNSON TORRINGTON RURAL 14 York Place, Northam Road Bideford, Devon, EX39 3LA Tel: nigeljohnson4321@gmail.com Devon County Council Election 4 th May 2017 My name is Nigel Johnson, and I m asking you to please consider voting for me in the up and coming Devon County Council elections on 4 th May I m standing, in particular, to fight and reverse the closures and attempts to run down our local NHS services, leaving our communities extremely exposed and vulnerable, especially in cases of acute trauma and illness. If the powers that be get their way, we will all face a journey of at least an hour and 20 minutes by ambulance each way to get to the remaining hospitals Exeter, Plymouth & Torbay. That will mean more of our people will unfortunately die, because we live North of the A38!

As a local man born and bred, like you, I have witnessed our area losing its health services bit by bit, letting down our elderly, our young and our vulnerable. Not because NHS staff don t care, far from it, but by decisions made by legions of uncaring pen-pushers. At the same time, we have seen the rise of foodbanks in our communities. Economically we have little investment, few employers and our area is the second lowest waged in the country. Yet a few greedy developers who live elsewhere, are encouraged to make millions by scarring our countryside with ineffective wind turbines, and massive unwanted, and locally unaffordable housing estates! Where has the compassion and caring gone from our elected representatives? We have a Conservative Government, MP, County & District Council all who sadly appear to only be interested in looking after their own clique. Local Tory councillors grand stand about the temporary closure of Holsworthy Hospital because they are up for re-election in a few weeks time! Theirs are just crocodile tears.. after all this has happened on their watch! The Tory Cabal at Westminster and County Hall Exeter have allowed our elderly people to suffer from neglect. They have decimated our highways leading to potholes appearing on many major roads. They have deprived our young people of local affordable rented housing. They have jeopardised the education of our schoolchildren through cut backs in the funding of our schools. In the meantime, billions are given each year in the form of Foreign Aid to countries with nuclear weapons and space programmes. I love this area, and brought my family to live here after a business career all over the world, and I know we can do so very much better than this! Please vote for change, and reverse our area s decline. With warmest regards Nigel Johnson UKIP candidate, Devon County Council elections 2017, Holsworthy Rural Division UKIP - Not a party of the left: Not a party of the right: A party of the people. ROBIN JULIAN BIDEFORD WEST AND HARTLAND Since becoming a County Councillor the funding spent in my Division is a staggering 150,000. This funding has included Bideford Town and twelve Parish Councils. This funding has supported the lonely, elderly, vulnerable, toddlers, youth clubs, Air Cadets, Sea

Cadets, Army Cadets, Academies, Schools, Bideford College Gymnastic Team, Boy Scouts, Girl Guides, Bideford Library, local villagers, Parish Halls, Highway repairs & Signs, WI, AONB (Beech Clearance), Lundy Island (Wild Life Project), Fire Brigade (Defibrillators) and NHS (Helicopter Landing Pads & Lights). The Committees that I attend are Appeals, Corporate Scrutiny, Peoples Scrutiny, Health & Wellbeing, Development Management, Farm Estates, Leaders Group Child Protection, Torridge Highways & Traffic Orders, Procedures, Devon & Exeter Rail Party, Members Development Group, Devon & Somerset Fire Authority, Parents Forum, AONB, Chamber of Commerce, Shadow Cabinet, Scrutiny Budgets, Devon Partnerships (Torrington & North Devon) and Group Leader (Devon UKIP). The past four years have been some of the most interesting of my life. I have had the opportunity to serve my division on over 20 different committees including Vice Chair of one, which has given me a unique insight into how the Council functions and the interaction between it, the constituents, their lives and businesses. There is a need for representatives such as Councillors to help address local issues, and to that end I have allocated monies from my Locality and Capital budgets to groups such as the elderly, toddlers, social and sports clubs. Being mindful of the remote nature of some areas of my Constituency, I have also ensured that help and support is available in case of need and so money has been allocated to purchase defibrillators and also to support the Devon Air Ambulance in the form of landing lights. Specific funding ( 92,000) has been allocated to help address the poor state of the roads in the District which has been used to repair potholes, collapsed roads, improve drainage and fit safety signs. Calming gates have been installed at Fairy Cross and will soon be installed at Horns Cross and Bucks Cross in an effort to slow down speeding traffic though our peaceful villages. I was instrumental in keeping the Bideford Hospital open and I will continue to work to keep the services at North Devon Healthcare Trust open and available. Our young people are our future and in keeping with my farming background, I have supported and encouraged local young farmers to both enter the business and to expand. Funding has also been made available to children and young peoples groups to support out of school activities and promoting healthier lifestyles with fitness, team building and social skills. These include boxing, gymnastics and football teams and the sea, air and army cadets. They in turn, all give back to their own communities. I fully appreciate that tourism provides many businesses with their main source of income so facilities such as good roads, clean beaches, adequate parking and varied and plentiful accommodation are one of my priorities as County Councillor. I will continue to help utilise skills, knowledge and experience and help encourage apprenticeships and further training within our local businesses. In closing, I would like to thank everyone who voted for me four years ago. It has given me the chance to make a difference. I have enjoyed every moment and would welcome the opportunity to again continue to serve my community for another four years as your County Councillor for Bideford West and Hartland. If you have any issues, contact me at robin.julian@devon.gov.uk
