There is little or no research that has focused on variations in men and women s support due to differing aspects of the international situation. I have conducted two studies, one a student sample and the other a non-random adult sample, both an experiment embedded in a political attitudes survey. I find the gap is at its largest in the context of Terrorism with women 20% points less likely to support intervention. I find a sizeable and significant reversal of the gender gap for Humanitarian Intervention, in which women are 10% points more likely to support military action. I also examine the extent to which gender differences in values provide an overarching explanation for these observed gender differences. I find evidence that values are an important component of support for military interventions and can serve to mediate at the gap.
