Students will develop the understanding of: Rise of Empires: The desire to secure a civilizations territory and secure economic resources leads to a rise of empires. Economic Activity and Cultural Diffusion: The acquisition of new territory leads to increased economic activity and allows for the exchange of cultural ideas. Fall of Empires: Internal and external factors contribute to the fall of empires. Cultural Achievement: The achievements of empires have an enduring cultural impact. Lesson Tasks LO: SWBAT read and summarize a passage about the decline of a empire and explain this summary to a group. Language Learning Strategy LO: SWBAT develop a cause/effect graphic organizer analyzing and identifying the causes and effects of the decline of one empire. (The linguistic load will vary from LEP student to LEP student. Level 1-2 LEP students may need a word bank or other supplement to complete this activity using this strategy).
