1 Maiden Show; June 16, 2012 Kris: Welcome to Saturday Morning Live. The show that is all about you, the forgotten People whose lives are most affected by politicians due to the laws and regulations they created and the money they spend. My name is Kris Halterman, the host of Saturday Morning Live. Well, it s time to talk about the consequences of a political philosophy that has so sharply turned away from individual liberty. The many ways it has manifested itself here locally and throughout our nation and to expose the actions of local and state government that erodes civil liberty. It is the goal of the many individuals involved in this show s production to bring the local issues to you, and to discuss solutions to them from the perspective of liberty. We feel an obligation to work for solutions that bring a community together, foster economic diversity and vitality. Solutions founded in liberty, as was intended by the founding principles of our great nation. Liberty is hard to measure because it can mean something different to everyone in an America. We all come from diverse backgrounds, but if we want to call ourselves Americans, let s work together to solve things. After all we are only human and humans are prone to errors. When we are faced with hard decisions, in the words of a good and wise friend of mine, Karl Uppiano, When liberty is at stake and you are faced with a tough decision, give liberty a chance. In other words, if you are going to err, err on the side of liberty. That s why this show will rely upon the efforts of many individuals who will bring their expertise and diverse perspectives to the platform. We ve gathered private individuals with life experience in financial management, agriculture and the family farm, corporate exposure, property rights, patriotism, education, political philosophy, Gen Y, the voice of the small business, and you. You re a big piece to this program. I love hearing how your life is, or is not, filled with the greatness that liberty affords you. It is our strong desire to look for positive solutions that bring people together and nurture liberty. Each week we will focus on topics that take on local and state issues, in a live, call-in format. We re teaming with groups like The Freedom Foundation, Washington Policy Center and the Association of Washington Business, to bring you monthly updates on issues they are focused on in Washington State. We plan to bring in local and state political representatives to talk about current issues they re dealing with in our City, County and State governments. And, best of all we ll bring in you, the listener, to share your thoughts with us.

2 Today s program is live and for our maiden program I d like to focus on the people whose voices, may or may not, be heard each week, but whose passion and research will make this program a resource for the listener to hear more than sound bites of what s happening in your community. I hope to be able to hear from you today, too. Let us know what you think about the show and its concepts. Dick: First off I d like to give thanks to Dick Donahue, who believes in this program and made it possible by working in the background with Cascade Radio to get it on the air. Dick s passionate contribution comes from his understanding of the need for liberty to create wealth. For those of you who are not already familiar with Dick Donahue, Dick has his own programs on Cascade Radio, Wealth Wake-up Live, on Saturday mornings, plus Wealth Wake-up, on Sunday mornings. Welcome Dick. It s an honor to have you here this morning. Dick (delivers his message) Lorraine: Agriculture is one of the economic drivers in Whatcom County. So I ve asked a dear friend and an ardent voice for agricultural and the vanishing family farm. My friend, Lorraine Newman has been a resident of Whatcom County for 26 + years, having come from the great state of Montana, the 4 th generation of a family farm. Lorraine, could you please share with the listeners how you came to understand the connection between agriculture, the family farm and liberty. Lorraine (delivers her message) Terry: I m sorry that Terry Cox is unable to join us this morning due to illness. We ll definitely bring you on a show in the near future to share your thoughts on the role of corporations in the local, state, federal and global economy is vital. Of late it has been vilified and demonized. I don t believe the average Joe understands how dependent the future of private business growth relies on, not only the continuation of corporations, but the growth of them. Terry Cox, friend and supporter, has worked for the corporate world and will bring her unique understanding of the role corporations have in today s society. She s experienced the good and the bad, role corporations have in private entrepreneurship for small, medium and large business endeavors.

3 Terry (delivers her message) Greg: Property rights are a key component of the private, free market sector. Without property rights, there can be no wealth creation. For property is a many faceted gem that must be understood and protected in order for all individuals to have the capacity to achieve any level of security in their lives. Many of our listeners may assume that property is land, but it is much more than land. Property is the ability to own what you create or buy, and to use it in a legal capacity. Greg Brown has lived in Whatcom County for 46+ years, raised his family here, and now devotes a great deal of his time to land issues. Greg understands that property rights with regards to private land ownership and usage is a key to how individuals create wealth and security. Well, I d rather let Greg share his story with you. Greg (delivers his message) Wylin: What would our world be without ardent patriotism? A patriot is someone who is loves their country and the life afforded to its citizens. Isn t that why we call it the American Dream? A-a-ah! Wylin! Wylin Tjoelker is a poet who doesn t know it. Wylin, our patriot laureate, will share the purpose of this programs theme. How it was then. How it is now. How it can be again. Wylin (delivers his message) Robert: One of the principle functions of local and state government is to facilitate an educated populace. Because the United States of America began as an educated, middle class Country, we understood how import it is for the people to be educated, not indoctrinated. There is a big difference in outcomes, when the people are given the opportunity to learn how to read, write, speak and compute. Dr. Robert Thorndike, is professor emeritus of psychology at WWU.

4 Dr. Thorndike s lifetime experience in education and deep understanding of psychology, gives him a unique perspective on the role education plays in forming the students understanding of education s connection to liberty. Robert (delivers his message) Karl: Karl Uppiano is a self-described preservative and constitutional advocate. It s that deep understanding of the connection to preserve the constitution and its link to freedom, that Karl brings to this program. Karl (delivers his message) Jake: Where would we be without the youth? The future of any country is dependent upon them for continued progeny, productivity, social structure, leadership, labor, service, and defense. They help keep the elders of any community engaged and in accelerative movement. In my youth I didn t grasp the fragility of freedom as I do now. One of the tasks of any generation is to pass this knowledge and expectation on to the next generation. Jacob Deschenes, hails from King County, is a recent graduate of WWU and has been employed with Asset Advisors for 5 of his 8 years in Bellingham. As adults we really need to take the time to hear their voices and give them assurance that freedom and liberty will be there for them, too! Jake (delivers his message) Kris: It has become my goal in life to un-complicate the complicated. To simplify the spider s web that government regulation has created, in order to re-engage the public into the process, through understanding and common sense. For, the road to liberty is full of pot holes that need to not be avoided, but filled. Liberty Road, as I like to refer to it, needs to be maintained and cared for at the highest priority, so that it is there for future generations to travel on. When we are free to be, we unleash the power of the individual. The millions and billions of little incubators with the power to create and solve anything that life puts before us.

5 As a 3 rd generation Whatcom County resident, small business owner, wife, mother and woman, I believe that we can achieve anything if we put our minds to it, create a plan and tell Big Brother to get out of the way. We all know that small businesses took a big hit in 2008, and those fortunate enough to still be in business, likely succeeded not only because they were able to find new sources of revenue, but expressly due to severe cuts they made to their business expenses. Just as government gov t has asked its citizens not to go on a diet to lose weight, but to make a lifestyle change. That same guidance needs to be taken to heart by government. The growth of government has far exceeded the ability of the private sector to support gov t and sustain a healthy, growing economy for private business. When citizens are allowed to take responsibility for what is best handled within the private sector (and not mandated by gov t) we foster better citizens and provide the individual liberty we all deserve.

This week s Tea Time announcements are: July 4 Independence Day Parade -- March with us in the Blaine Independence Day parade July 11 Town Hall 2012 Candidate Forum-- 1st Congressional District, 40th District Candidates July 18 Town Hall 2012 Candidate Forum-- 2nd Congressional District, 42nd District, US Senate Candidates July 28 Ferndale Parade (Old Settlers) -- March with us in the Ferndale Old Settler's parade An important part of the show is what I call Liberty Alerts: Each week I want to alert you of future actions being considered and voted on by your local and state representatives that have the potential to erode your liberty, like: Currently the Whatcom County Council is working on a resolution to the LAMIRDs (Limited Areas of More Intense Rural Development) dealing with, Rural Elements. After all of the time spent recently by the County Council to put the LAMIRD s issue to rest, a number of people, including former Whatcom County Planner, David Stalheim, and former Whatcom County Planning Commissioner, Jean Melious, both members of Futurewise, an NGO (that s a non-governmental organization for those of you out there in Huxleyville) filed an appeal with the Growth Management Act Hearings Board over the outcomes made by the County Council for the property owners who are affected by the LAMIRD s designations. The outcome of this matter will have huge implications on your liberty to use your property in a sustainable and responsible manner. Property Rights are given special protections under your Federal and State Constitutions, and that includes the Whatcom County Charter. We ll have more on this on our June 30 th program, but I wanted you to know today because the County Council will have further discussion on the rural elements designation of the LAMIRD s this Tuesday, June 19 th, at 7pm. That is your opportunity to learn more and voice your thoughts and concerns to the Council.
