9 - The theory of miasma was subsequently proved wrong. It was replaced in the late 19th century by the germ theory of Pasteur and Koch. Nevertheless, the belief in miasma pointed to environmental factors behind ill health. This helped in creating the right ideological climate for accepting public sanitation and hygiene.

10 Environment, however, plays an insignificant role in Ayurveda. - Indian system of medicine does not connect open filth and stink with ill health. Illness is internal balance gone wrong and the external world is largely neutral. Hence, connecting good health to a clean environment does not come as easily to us as it does to those who fear miasma.

The special CBI court also imposed a fine of 60 lakh. This is the highest punishment the former Chief Minister has been awarded in the fodder scam cases so far. The court of special CBI judge Shiv Pal Singh had convicted Lalu Prasad and 18 others on Monday. Twelve others, including former Bihar Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra, were acquitted.

13 Cauvery panel may concede Karnataka s demand A draft cabinet note detailing the structure of the Cauvery Management Board has been prepared by the Union Water Resources Ministry and is likely be circulated to other Ministries before being put up for clearance by the Union Cabinet. Board may have extra members to accommodate representations from States such as Karnataka and Kerala, that have expressed concerns over the constitution of the board in the last month.

14 - The Cauvery Board, according to the 2007 order of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, is to have three fulltime and six part-time members, the latter including one each from Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry. The Board to monitor the inflow of waters in the Cauvery basin and decide the quantum of water to be released to the States will also have a Cauvery Water Regulation Committee to implement the Board s decision.

24 Mount Etna Europe's most active volcano, Mount Etna, is sliding towards the sea. Scientists have established that the whole structure on the Italian island of Sicily is edging in the direction of the Mediterranean at a rate of 14mm per year.
