2 IUCN SSC Leaders Meeting September 2015 Draft Mandate Draft CEESP s Vision is A world where sustainability, social justice and equity are valued in nature conservation and development Draft Mission: To contribute to the IUCN Vision and Mission by generating and disseminating knowledge, mobilizing influence, and promoting actions to harmonize the conservation of nature with crucial social, cultural and economic justice concerns of human societies, including human rights and responsibilities, indigenous peoples' wellbeing and rights, women s empowerment, peace and human security, equity, biocultural diversity, sustainable livelihoods, fair and equitable governance of natural resources and sharing of benefits derived from natural resources, and respect for diverse spiritual and cultural understandings of nature. CEESP also assists indigenous peoples, social and faith-based movements and other relevant networks to engage with all components of the Union.

4 NATURAL RESOURCES GOVERNANCE FRAMEWORK Objectives are to provide practical guidance on how to implement Effective and equitable governance of nature s use and to position IUCN as a leader in the promotion of good governance and innovative equitable governance Development of NRGF to date was supported by over 1280 volunteer days estimated value of US$863,575 Early outputs Values & Principles to underpin the NRGF, NRGF Inquiry Guide, Guide on Implementation of the UN-DRIP

5 HUMAN DEPENDENCY ON NATURE PEOPLE IN NATURE Main partners are University of Manitoba & Open Society Initiative of Southern Africa (OSISA) Secretariat: ORMAC-C, ESARO ORO, ARO, ROWA and Nature Based solutions Group Moving from developmental phase to learning phase through early application sites Four early application sites have been identified; one ORMAC-C and 3 in Africa Early application has allowed for new partners to be identified to support development and funding Should remain an institutional priority as flagship knowledge basket
