2 Participants Mirjam Dageforde (Sciences Po, Paris & University of Stuttgart) Mirjam Dageförde is PhD candidate at the Centre d études européennes de Sciences Po and at the University of Stuttgart. Her thesis investigates political representation in Europe as perceived by the citizenry. Mainly, it explores how distinct modes of ideological agreement between parties and voters impact on citizens evaluation of representation and how the institutional context mediates these effects. At this, the thesis develops new concepts for measuring congruence from an individual perspective. Beyond, her research interests concern representation and the relation of citizens and politics in a broader scope (e.g. MPs and voters, elections, communication). At Sciences Po, she currently teaches on research methods or political representation. At the University of Stuttgart, she was Research Associate at the Chair of Comparative Politics and Political Sociology. She holds a Master of Arts in Empirical Political Science as well as a double degree in Political Science/Economics (B.A.). Moreover, she was involved in several international research projects as Citizens and Representatives in France and Germany, the European Elections Project or the European Social Survey. Carl Dahlstrom (University of Gothenburg) carl.dahlstrom@gu.se Carl Dahlström is professor and Director of Graduate Studies at the Department of Political Science, University of Gothenburg. He is also a research fellow at the Quality of Government Institute and has been a visiting scholar at Sciences Po, Paris, Merton College, University of Oxford, Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies, Harvard University, and Stockholm Center for Organizational Research, Stockholm University. His research is concerned with comparative and historical perspectives on public administration, policymaking and party politics. Elias Dinas (University of Oxford) elias.dinas@politics.ox.ac.uk Elias Dinas is Associate Professor of Comparative Politics in the Department of Politics and International Relations at the University of Oxford and Politics Fellow of Brasenose College. He was previously lecturer at the University of Nottingham and Prize Postdoctoral Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford. His PhD thesis from the European University Institute received the 2010 Linz Rokkan award for the best thesis in political sociology. His work has been published in various journals and has been discussed in the Atlantic, the Economist and the Greek parliament. Florence Faucher (Sciences Po, Paris) florence.faucher@sciencespo.fr Is Professor at the Centre d études européennes at Sciences Po in Paris, to which she returned in in 2010 after 5 years at Vanderbilt University (Nashville, Tennessee) where she was Associate Professor and Associate Director of the Max Kade Center in European and German studies. Prior to Vanderbilt, she taught at Sciences Po and at Stirling University. In Sciences Po, she teaches both undergraduate and graduate classes (Environmental politics, European politics) and coordinate the Double Master Degree on European Affairs (Sciences Po/LSE). She also coordinates academic exchange between Oxford University and Sciences Po throught the Oxpo programme. Her research interests include political parties and social movements and she focuses on how political activism has changed over the last 30 years. 2

3 Martial Foucault (Sciences Po) Is a full professor of political science at Sciences Po Paris, director of the CEVIPOF (CNRS) and associate researcher within the Laboratoire Interdisciplinaire d Evaluation des Politiques Publiques (LIEPP). Between 2006 and 2013, he was associate professor at the University of Montreal in the political science department. Previously, he spent one year (2005/06) at the European University Institute in Florence (Italy) as research post-doc fellow. he has defended my Ph.D. thesis in economics at the University of Paris 1 Pantheon-Sorbonne within the Centre d Economie de la Sorbonne (CNRS) in His research interests range from political economy to political behavior, without neglecting public policies, fiscal policies, and statistical methods. Isabelle Guinaudeau (Sciences Po, Bordeaux) i.guinaudeau@sciencespobordeaux.fr Isabelle Guinaudeau is associate researcher at the French National Council for Research (CNRS/Centre Emile Durkheim) and principal investigator of the French Research Agency project Partipol. She explores questions related to party competition strategies, accountability and responsiveness, in particular at the EU level. He holds degrees from Sciences Po and the University of Cambridge. He has been a senior research fellow at Sciences Po since 2003, working now at the Centre d'études européennes (CEE). He is the coconvenor of the Master s Programme in European Affairs. He teaches courses on EU politics, interest-group politics and comparative politics at Sciences Po. His research concentrates on agenda-setting and political institutions. He is currently working on two major research projects. The first concerns the possibility of partisan government in a a context of ever growing interdependence. The other focuses on the influence of media salience on policy-making processes. Geoffrey Evans (University of Oxford) geoffrey.evans@politics.ox.ac.uk Geoffrey Evans is Official Fellow in Politics, Nuffield College, and a Professor in the Department of Politics & IR, University of Oxford. Over the last 25 or so years he has been engaged in largescale survey studies of social structure, attitudes and political behaviour in Britain and Northern Ireland, as well as broader comparative studies in Europe and Africa. He has published around 100 journal articles in political science and related disciplines, as well as four books. His current research includes studies of the dynamic influences on individual voting behaviour, including the effects of party leadership on voting, the impact of UKIP on British electoral politics, and the long-term impact of fundamental political values. Further work examines the evolution of the British electoral landscape over the last 50 years and the political marginalization of the working class, and the evolution of class divisions, social mobility and religiosity in post-communist societies. Editor of the journal Electoral Studies since 1999, he is currently co-director of the 2015 British Election Study, the 2014 Scottish Referendum Study, and the 2016 Northern Ireland Election Study. 3

4 Sergi Pardos-Prado (University of Oxford) Dr. Sergi Pardos-Prado is an Official Fellow in Politics at Merton College, University of Oxford. He holds a PhD in Political and Social Sciences by the European University Institute in Florence. His research interests lie at the intersection between political behaviour, party competition, and political economy. His recent work has appeared in the Journal of Politics, the British Journal of Political Science, the European Journal of Political Research, and Political Behavior among others. Jonathan Polk (University of Gothenburg) jonathan.polk@gu.se Jonathan Polk is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Political Science and the Centre for European Research at the University of Gothenburg. He completed his Ph.D. in political science at the University of Georgia in His teaching and research interests include political parties, European politics, representation, and electoral behavior in economically advanced democracies. Chris Prosser (University of Manchester) chris.prosser@politics.ox.ac.uk Chris Prosser is a postdoctoral researcher on the British Election Study. He is a Research Associate at the University of Manchester, and a Research Fellow at Nuffield College, Oxford. His research interests include political behaviour and party politics in Britain and Europe, particularly the formation of political perceptions and how these affect voting decisions, the effects of electoral systems, and survey research methodology. Jan Rovny (Sciences Po, Paris & University of Gothenburg) jan.rovny@sciencespo.fr Jan Rovny is an assistant professor at the Centre d études européennes and LIEPP at Sciences Po, Paris. He is also conducting a research project through the Center for European Research at the University of Gothenburg (CERGU) in Sweden. His research concentrates on political competition in Europe with the aim of uncovering the ideological conflict lines in different countries. It explores the issues that political parties contest across the continent, the strategies that different parties follow, as well as the preferences and voting patterns of voters. He is also one of the principal investigators of the Chapel Hill Expert Surveys on party positioning. Nicolas Sauger (Sciences Po, Paris) nicolas.sauger@sciencespo.fr Nicolas Sauger has been a Professor at Sciences Po since He was Vincent Wright Fellow at the Robert Schuman Centre of the European University Institute in Florence. His fields of research focus on the analysis of changes in structures of political competition in France and Europe. He pays particular interest to laboratory experiments in the social sciences and comparative repeated surveys. Nicolas Sauger is co-director of the team "Evaluation of Democracy" of the Interdisciplinary Laboratory for the Evaluation of Public Policies, member of the Planning Committee of the Comparative Study of Electoral Systems, and member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the European Social Survey. He is directing at present a project on the political economy of voting Stephen Whitefield (University of Oxford) stephen.whitefield@politics.ox.ac.uk After writing his doctorate in 1991 on Soviet political and economic institutions (published as Industrial Power and the Soviet State by Oxford University Press in Ed A. Hewett Prizewinner), Stephen Whitefield has spent the last 20 years studying post-communist politics and society via mass surveys conducted repeatedly in 13 post-communist countries. On the way, he became interested in the character of post-communist and now West European political parties, which he is also investigating (with Robert Rohrschneider at Indiana University, 4

5 Bloomington) via expert surveys of their stances towards European integration and social inequality. These interests have expanded recently to include an Egyptian election study (in November 2011) and a study of how parties differ among themselves and over time in their emotional appeals to voters. 5
