2 Advanced Instrumental Music HOBOKEN PUBLIC SCHOOLS Course Description Students in Advanced Instrumental Music will learn to read music fluently, melodically and rhythmically. Students will learn how to identify and perform with proper dynamics, intonation, and articulation. Students will delve into music theory and discover how it dictates the interpretation of the music that they play. 4 Unit 2 Articulation 2-4 Weeks Unit 2 Overview Ø In this unit, students will be able to identify articulation markings and apply them in performance of concert repertoire. Ø How important is articulation? How do the musical symbols on top of notes indicate my tasks? If I m playing the right notes, is that enough? Essential Learning Outcomes Ø Students will be able to identify articulation markings and apply them in performance of concert repertoire. They will be able to tune using an electronic tuner with a dial, tune to an emitted pitch, and tune to another player s instrument in the band. Ø How do I tune my instrument? Ø How is tuning deemed important in music? Essential Learning Outcomes Ø Students will be introduced to the various ways to tune a band. They will be able to tune using an electronic tuner with a dial, tune to an emitted pitch, and tune to another player s instrument in the band. Ø F.1 Evaluate the strengths and limitations of emerging technologies and their impact on educational, career, personal and or social needs. They will learn about how key signatures are generated using the circle of fifths. Students will learn why and how music is written for transposing instruments. Students will learn how major scales are created and how enharmonics are based off of a piano keyboard. Ø How are the underpinnings of the music that I play important to understand?
