2 1. Functional Process Diagrams Appendix A contains the final version of the functional process diagrams that were reviewed and agreed upon during the JAD sessions. The diagrams are grouped by court division. The functional process diagrams contain process blocks that are linked together by a simple numbering system. The diagrams are presented in a hierarchy from processes described at the most general level to the processes decomposed to the most detailed level. The processes include references to the Florida Statutes and court rules where applicable. Process diagrams are in the form of Visio drawings, and show inputs to and outputs from the processes. In cases where data comes from or goes to an external source, that source is indicated. Diagram Notation: Overview The process diagrams for this project use a notation that is a combination of the IDEF process modeling technique and traditional flowcharting. IDEF is a method designed to model the decisions, actions, and activities of an organization or system INPUT CONTROL Process Name ID # MECHANISM OUTPUT Processes are represented by a box containing a descriptive name for the process, and a number. Top-level process IDs are whole numbers; when the top-level process is further detailed, the processes are numbered in paragraph fashion, such as 1.1, 1.2, and so on. INPUTs to the process are labeled and enter the process box from the left side. OUPUTs are labeled and exit the process box on the right side. CONTROLs are a kind of constraint or regulation to which the process is subject (normally, the FL Statute that governs the process is indicated). Controls enter the process box from the top. MECHANISMs are rarely used in the diagrams, but when they are, they represent a tool or technique that facilitates the process. Input Process 1.1 Output Process 1.2 Processes are linked together in sequential order, where the output from one process is used as an input to the next process. Occasionally, there may be no link between the output of one process and the input of the next process, but the processes remain in sequential order by the process ID numbers. As mentioned above, the second-level process boxes are numbered with the top-level (or "parent") process number followed by a period separator (.) and a sequential number.
