The Program was designed to provide participants with basic and practical knowledge of substantial legal concepts pertaining to government; the judicial system; civil, criminal and quasijudicial procedure; jurisdiction of local government units; ethical standards of judges, lawyers and civil servants; and the rules, regulations and procedures of various administrative agencies. 4 Hunyo 2 Hunyo 4-15 World Bicycle Day REQUITED Screenings DOST PHIL-LiDAR 1 Program and DILG LiDAR-GIS and Flood Disaster Management Training for Local Government Units (LGUs) Celebrating the first World Bicycle Day at the UPFI Film Center Videotheque, UPFI Film Center 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. In celebration of the first official International World Bicycle Day this coming June 3, the UP Film Institute is screening Requited directed by Nerissa Picadizo. The film aims to put a spotlight on the long-distance biking culture of our country as seen through the characters of Matt (Jake Cuenca) and Sandy (Anna Luna) as they travel from Manila to majestic locations like Mt. Pinatubo Lake, Monasterio de Tarlac and Capas National Shrine. There will be a Q&A session with the director after every screening. Admission fee is P150. Geodetic Engineering Theater, 4th Floor, Melchor Hall 8 a.m. 5 p.m. The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) tapped the Phil-LiDAR Program to disseminate Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) products and to utilize and apply knowledge on open source geospatial processing tools, and come up with effective local government plans to more municipalities. Selected LGUs were asked to send representatives from their local DILG, Planning, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) and Engineering Offices. DOST and DILG Regional Offices were also invited. Covering 17 regions of the country, the training aims to expand the reach and power of GIS and LiDAR products in developing more proactive and responsive DRRM plans for the LGUs. 5 Hunyo 4-8 Hunyo 7 TEC 2018 Refugees and Immigration in the US Teaching Effectiveness Course Teodoro Room, 3rd Floor, UP ISSI 8 a.m. 5 p.m. The TEC is a 5-day (40 hours) experiential course organized by the Office of the Advancement for Teaching (under the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs) leading to the design, development, try-out and revision of teaching plans. The activities are highly structured and cumulatively sequenced to achieve the intended learning outcomes (e.g., design of an effective teaching plan). The course is open to regular faculty, lecturers, teaching assistants and teaching fellows. Priority is given to new faculty members but more experienced faculty members who wish to be updated on teaching approaches may also join. The course is free of charge but preregistration is required. Last minute/walk-in participants will not be entertained. Public lectures by Dr. Claire Angelique Nolasco and Dr. Daniel Braaten Room 207, Palma Hall 9 a.m. 12 p.m. As the world faces a global refugee crisis and political debates take place over levels of immigration and immigration policy, two public lectures on refugees and immigration in the United States (US) are co-organized by the UP Department of Political Science and the UP Center for Integrative and Development Studies (CIDS) Program on Social and Political Change. Nolasco s lecture gives an analysis of US federal court jurisprudence to determine the legal rights of unaccompanied alien children in various stages of immigration enforcement proceedings. The lecture by Braaten explores how state capacity, state politics and the religious composition of federal states explain refugee resettlement patterns within the US. 6 Hunyo 13 Hunyo 14 Pleiades Performance: Daloy Dance Company A collateral event in line with Lawas Public Art Vargas Museum grounds (near CAL Lawn) 6 p.m. Dancers wearing animal masks will follow a trail around Agnes Arellano s work Pleiades through dance movements. Led by artistic director Ea Torrado, this performance by Daloy Dance Company is a collateral event in line with Lawas Public Art. This event is free to the public. Lawas is the public art component of the UP Diliman Festival of Culture and the Arts It features the works of Agnes Arellano, Mark Justiniani and Lee Paje at the CAL Lawn, Lagoon and Vargas Museum Sculpture Garden, respectively. 7 Hunyo 20 Hunyo AGHAMBAYAN Microsoft Excel Training: Intermediate Training Course A DOST-UP Science Technology and Innovation Festival Philippine International Convention Center, Pasay City 8 a.m. 5 p.m. AGHAMBAYAN celebrates the scientific projects and accomplishments of the University of the Philippines (UP) that impact the seemingly ordinary challenges of daily living. The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) supports UP in these endeavors. Through this festival, UP and DOST hope to raise public awareness of the value of science and its role in improving the quality of life of ordinary Filipinos. There will be an exhibition of scientific works classified into four clusters: health and well-being, environment, food, and human resource and job creation. There will also be a conference with short panel discussions and breakout sessions that would expound on the policy implications, utilization and uses of scientific research and innovations that benefit the public. CSRC Computer Lab 1 8 a.m. 5 p.m. The UP Computational Science Research Center (CSRC) is conducting a two-day training on Microsoft Excel. Target participants are those who want to familiarize themselves with Excel s terminology, screen components and most used functions, which are beneficial in making reports. 8 Hunyo 24 Hunyo 29 Ika-107 Pangkalahatang Pagtatapos Chopin: Before and Beyond Abelardo Hall Concert Series Season 1 UP Amphitheater 7 a.m. Abelardo Hall Auditorium 7 p.m. Sa taunang Pangkalahatang Pagtatapos, iginagawad ng Unibersidad ang titulo sa mga mag-aaral na nagtapos ng kanikanilang programa sa di-gradwado at gradwadong antas. Featuring international concert pianist Albert Tiu in an evening of Chopin classics, the concert is the last offering of the Abelardo Hall Concert Series 1 of the UP College of Music. Ito ay iba pa sa mga pagtatapos na isinasaginagawa ng bawat kolehiyo o linangan ng UP Diliman. Ticket prices are at P250 and P500 with discounts for senior citizens, students and PWDs.
