2 I. Context and Objectives This seminar takes place within the context of ongoing CESSS research and scientific activities and represents its six annual international scientific meeting on social research and social work research. The seminar is also held in partnership with the FCH PhD Social Work Program. The seminar is integrated in the CESSS research group POLIS: «Social Policy, Social Professions, Individualisation and Citizenship». In the context of European Year of Citizens 2013 the CESSS intends to promote the reflexion and debate on this relevant dimension of European construction. The programme is organised considering the opportunity to revisit the well-known T.H. Marshal theory about citizenship and, at same time, open the reflexion and debate about the specific dimension of social citizenship, particularly relevant in the present times characterised by one deep social and economic crisis. Citizenship, Social Justice and Social Work In Present Times constitutes another major theme in debate complemented for a call for papers open with the aim of stimulating researchers and PhD students to submit their papers. The objectives of the Seminar are: To contribute to dissemination and debate on the recent research on different dimensions of citizenship in the European and global context with special focus in social citizenship To contribute to a Portuguese Agenda on citizenship issues and challenges To create the opportunity for debate and reflection among researchers, doctorate and post-graduate students in the relevant topics. 4 Call for papers presentation The Research Centre for Social Work and Sociology (CESSS) is located within the Faculty of Human Sciences at Catholic University of Portugal and has the mission of developing scientific knowledge in Social Work and Sociology scientific realms. The seminar takes place within the context of ongoing CESSS research and scientific activities and represents its sixth annual international scientific meeting. The seminar is also held in partnership with the FCH PhD Social Work Program. The seminar is integrated in the CESSS research group POLIS: «Social Policy, Social Professions, Individualisation and Citizenship». In the context of European Year of Citizens 2013, CESSS intends to promote the reflexion and debate on this relevant dimension of European construction. The programme will rely on the contribution of invited scholars with expertise on this topic and on one session for paper presentation by researchers on this field (academics, PhD students, researchers). The organizers will welcome papers focusing on this theme and based on research work developed by the proposed author. According to this, four main streams can be identified for paper presentation: 1. Social Justice, Fundamental Rights and Citizenship in Europe; 2. Civic and Political Participation in Present Societies: Digital Citizenship and Social Movements; 3. Social Citizenship and Social Work Theories and Practices; 4. Theories of Citizenship: State, Civil Society and Citizens in Present Societies. Abstract Submission Abstracts should fit on one page and should include: 1. An indication to wich stream theme (see above) the paper fits 2. An summary in English and Portuguese of the paper s theme (max 300 words) 3. 5 CESSS Presentation The mission of CESSS is the development of scientific knowledge in the Social Work and Sociology scientific realms. CESSS also pursues the aim of production of relevant knowledge to the social development of Portuguese society and social professions, namely in relation to issues of social cohesion and inclusive society. In this global framework the specific objectives of CESSS are: a. To conduct studies which contribute to the theoretical and methodological development of the Social Work, Sociology and Social Sciences in general; b. To promote the interdisciplinary debate on theories and methodologies of Social Sciences; c. To receive and support research-training fieldwork and post-phd projects and contribute to research training in the areas of its activity, namely by the integration of master and PhD students in the research developed in the scope of the CESSS; d. To organize and to collaborate in the organization of congresses, symposiums, and of seminars and regular cycles of research and advanced education; e. To promote the scientific diffusion and edition in Social Work, Sociology and Social Sciences in general, in special of works carried out by its research activity; f.
