5 Trend on emrtd Status on the 3rd Generation of epass Volume, WW Today more than 300M passports issued, expecting 500M in CY2030; overall more than 110 countries out of the 193 UN member states. emrtd/eu CY 2015: 10 years of knowledge on emrtd processing & issuing CY 2015: only MRTDs are in use, based on 3 generations (BAC, BAC/EAC, SAC) Next generation of booklets are expected, e.g. w/ PC-holderpage 2 nd Gen/EU SPOC is fare behind the schedule; 5 years after roll out start EAC and fingerprints can t used cross border! 3 rd Gen/EU Deadline for EU MS: 31 st of Dec Successful interoperability test event in June CY2014, in Madrid, Spain

16 Mobile border verification Green border, blue border Many specific and different requirements are existing, Green border/street: - pre-registration of vehicles (license plate) - counting numbers of passengers in the vehicle - automatic document verification Green border/train: - Moving environment -> impact on connectivity - Reduce space low light. - Mobile device w/ OCR-scanner, contactless-reader, GSM- interface, wanted list update, battery power etc Blue border: - more than passenger on the boat - passenger verification on the boat or at arrival border - remote locations, thus we can expect that the implementation of Smart Borders in the EU will rest on various technologies. (ABC, Mobile terminal, self checks, etc.)
