3 Dear All Readers, Karen Refugee Committee Newsletter and Activity Report February We want to say thank you for reading our monthly newsletters. One major activity that we organized in this month is 2017 Annual Meeting for KRC and Camp Committee from seven camps, organized in Maela camp from March The meeting reviews our works and activities, especially camps relationship to partner s organization such as NGOs, CBOs and UNHCR and Thai authorities and discussed about the challenges for coming The meeting also reviewed the issue regarding funding support for refugees in term of food, household material, health, education, and livelihood and camp management programs. It also examined the challenges in managing the camp due to shortage of staff and further funding cut as an unforeseen situation. The meeting resolute that, camp committee and population, will learn to rely on themselves for their future. KRC will continue to lead the discussion on repatriation and organize consultation with the refugees. I realize that, there are some people who want to go back but still facing challenges to provide their family needs. I would like to request to concerned organizations to look into their needs, and their respective community will find means to help for those who would like to return. 4 Monthly Activities Report February /02/2018 KRC s Education Coordinator met with KRCEE and HI relation to school s future support at KRCEE office. 6/02/2018 KRC s Finance Advisor attended meeting organized by IRC in relation to sanitation at Maela camp. 9/02/2018 KRC-CMSP and TBC met and discussed about the finalization of CMSP camp s staff at CMSP office /02/2018 KRC Committee and Camp committee organized annual meeting at Maela camp /02/2018 KRC s Finance Advisor attended CRR meeting at Klo Yaw Lay. 15/02/2018- KRC s Education Coordinator gave presentation about refugee s situation during meeting organized by ENAC at Chiang Mai University. 16/02/2018 KRC, Camp Committee, CBOs, NGOs, UNHCR and organized partners meeting at Maela camp. 19/02/2018 KRC s Finance Advisor attended ENAC meeting in relation to the policy recommendation for peace process in Chiang Mai. 26/02/2018 UNHCR from Mae Sot, Geneva and Myanmar came and met with KRC s Chair, Secretary and Joint Secretary) and discussed issues related to land, housing in preparedness for refugee return. 27/02/2018 KRC-CMSP Coordinator and staff met and discussed annual plan for /02/2018 KRC Committee, Camp Committee and CBOs and NGOs discussed the support for most vulnerable refugee for TBC came as representative from NGOs. 4

5 NGO Supporters: TBC The Border Consortium. Supports with food and shelter material. TBC also supports with warm clothing for refugees. TBC coordinates with the Community Management and Preparedness Program to help with administration and management capacity in all seven camps. TBC provides KRC with administrative and organizational support and helps with staff remuneration. ADRA Adventist Development and Relief ncy. Starting January 2011, ADRA assumed responsibility for vocational training formerly implemented by ZOA in all seven camps. WEAVE Promotes women and children s education and self-reliance, focusing on household issues to help women achieve more power, rights, and opportunities in refugee communities. ARC American Refugee Committee. Supports medical and health facilities. M.I. Malteser International, formerly MHD Supports medical and health facilities. World Education Support for the Institute of Higher Education. COERR Catholic Office for Emergency Relief and Refugees. Food and educational support. EVI Involved with care and support for extremely vulnerable individuals. H.I. Handicap International. Supports handicapped refugees with prostheses and rehabilitation. It also organizes annual sporting events for the handicapped. UNHCR United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. Supports registration process, protection, and ultimate safe repatriation. It is currently helping with resettlement issues. SMRU Shoklo Malaria Research Unit. Supports malaria control, prevention, and treatment. SVA Supports libraries in the camps. SAVE THE CHILDREN - Support teacher training and management capacity building. PPAT Planned Parenthood Association of Thailand. Supports family planning and preventive education in refugee camps. SOLIDARITES INTERNATIONAL Supports Burmese refugees in the camp to address sanitation issues. RIGHT TO PLAY Support Teacher subsidies, teacher training and capacity building.
