We strive to become charitable members of our community through a dedication to the four core values. As members of Theta Chi, we enter to learn and go forth to serve. We extend the helping hand to those who seek it. We believe in ourselves and each other, and we inspire positivity and excellence in all aspects of our lives. 2 ΘΧ General Information Creed: I believe in Theta Chi, its traditions and its ideals. Born of sturdy manhood, nurtured by resolute men, ennobled by high and sacred purpose, it has taken its place among the educational institutions of America as a promoter of knowledge, an advancer of culture, and a builder of character. It inspires true friendship; teaches Truth, Temperance, and Tolerance, extols virtue, exacts harmony, and extends a helping hand to all who seek it. I believe in the primacy of Alma Mater; in the usefulness of my Fraternity, in its influence and its accomplishments, and I shall do all in my power to perpetuate its ideals, thereby serving my God, my country, and my fellow-man. Founding fathers: Brother Frederick Norton Freemen and Brother Arthur Chase History of Founding: Founded on April 10, 1856 at Norwich University in Norwich, Vermont, the Old South Barracks. Weather when ΘΧ was founded: It may or may not have been raining. Colors: Military Red and White Animal of OX: Rattlesnake Why? Because it warns its prey before it strikes. 3 We the People of Theta Chi Fraternity, in Order to form a more perfect Fraternity, establish Fairness, insure fraternal Structure and Continuity and promote the general Welfare, do ordain and establish this Constitution for Theta Chi Fraternity- Alpha Gamma Chapter. Article I: Name The name of the organization will be Theta Chi. Article III: Purpose, vision, mission, aims, functions of the organization. Section 1. Purpose: Theta Chi is established for the expressed purpose of developing a brotherhood amongst pledge classes. Section 2. Mission: Through campus involvement, our mission is to create meaningful experiences, a vibrant Brotherhood, and lifelong memories for our brothers. We look to create leaders within our organization and engage in philanthropy events. Section 3. Theta Chi understands and is committed to fulfilling its responsibilities of abiding by the University of Michigan policies and procedures. Article IV: Membership Section 1. Active membership shall be limited to persons officially connected with the University of Michigan as registered students. In addition, the following requirements are necessary to constitute active members: a) Payment in full of financial obligations as determined by Theta Chi. b) Active participation in all activities and events sponsored by Theta Chi. c) Attendance of at least 75% of all campus events during a given semester. Theta Chi openly admits students to its membership and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight, or veteran status. Section 2: Joining the organization: Each potential new member will have to receive a bid after going through the rush process. Once a bid is received, each new member will eventually be initiated and recognized by the Theta Chi nationals upon completing new member education about the fraternity and its ideals. To be considered active, the individual must meet the requirements outlined in Article IV, Section 1. Section 3: A member may voluntarily withdraw from Theta Chi by notifying the executive board of their desire to discontinue membership. Financial obligations previously paid to the organization will not be refunded. Duties and Powers of Active Chapter Officers Positions and Roles Selection of Leadership: Leadership Positions are selected by vote at the 2 nd chapter meeting of the new school year. Any member of Theta Chi can run for a leadership position. During the selection process, every member of Theta Chi is entitled to 1 vote and may vote under their own discretion.

4 (a) President. The president shall preside at all meetings of an active chapter and perform all duties expected of the president of a parliamentary body and organization. The president shall oversee the general operation of the chapter and the performance of his fellow officers and shall serve as a representative of and spokesman for his chapter. (b) Vice President. The vice president shall officiate in the absence of the president with the same powers and privileges as the president. The vice president shall oversee the internal operations of the chapter, supervise all committees and committee chairmen, and assist the president in carrying out his duties and responsibilities. (c) Secretary. The secretary shall keep an accurate, complete and impartial record of the meetings and proceedings of the chapter, and shall have custody of these Bylaws, chapter Bylaws, meeting minutes, member records, and other records of the chapter, except for those pertaining to the treasurer or any other officer as specifically provided. He shall be responsible for submitting all required or appropriate fees and forms to the Executive Director, including all forms and records required by subsections 4(c), 4(e) and 4(h) of Article VI in connection with the registration of New Members, requests for initiation, and the recording of new initiates. Secretary will also contribute to Executive Committee discussions and provide input on important chapter matters. * (d) Treasurer. The treasurer shall collect all fees, dues, assessments and fines. He shall collect all New Member registration and initiation fees for the secretary. He shall be responsible for establishing and following a budget for each school year. (e) Marshal. The marshal shall be responsible for the education of New Members of the chapter. His responsibilities shall include development of the educational program and conduct of the entire educational process, and shall continue until the New Members have been properly prepared for initiation. He shall at all times serve as an example for New Members and members to follow, and shall make certain that no hazing practices are allowed to take place in the educational program or otherwise, or tolerated under any circumstances. He shall make certain that every New Member is assigned an undergraduate member as a big brother or other mentor to assist him in learning about the Fraternity. (f). House Manager. The house manager communicates with the alumni board and house management frequently and addresses any issues or concerns that arise in regards to damages, improvements or anything related to the house itself. (g). Mental Health Chair. The mental health chair is an approachable and understanding brother who sacrifices his time to help monitor and improve the mental well-being of all members and is responsible for initiating mental health charity events. *All Executive Committee members are expected to contribute to discussions and decisions that would benefit from additional insight and perspective. Chapter Meetings:

5 Purpose: Chapter meetings are held once a week in the chapter house in order to share information to members regarding social schedule, brother recognitions, and any other important miscellaneous information. Members are given the opportunity to voice opinions or raise discussions about anything they desire. Gavel Pass to close meeting Article VII: Removal of Membership or Officers

6 Section 1: Removal of Officers: Any officer of Theta Chi in violation of Theta Chi s purpose, constitution, or who fails to fulfill their responsibilities as outlined in Article V, may be removed from office by the following process: a) A written request by at least three members of the organization. b) Written notification to the officer of the request, asking the officer to be present at the next meeting and prepared to speak. c) A two-thirds (2/3) majority vote of eligible voting members is necessary to remove the officer. Section 2: Removal of Membership: Any member of Theta Chi in violation of Theta Chi s purpose, constitution, or who fails to meet the membership requirements as outlined in Article IV, may have their privileges as a member revoked through the following process: a) A written request by at least three members of the organization must be sent to the executive committee. b) Written notification to the member in question, asking the member to be present the next executive committee meeting and prepared to speak. c) A unanimous decision by the executive committee members, in consultation with the advisor, to remove the member from the organization. Article X: Amendments Section 1: This constitution is binding to all members of Theta Chi but it is not binding unto itself. Amendments to the constitution may be proposed in writing by any voting member of Theta Chi at any meeting at which quorum is met. The amendments will be placed on the agenda for the next regular meeting and voted on at that time. Ratification of the constitution: Theta Chi is committed to updating its constitution every year, making sure that its core aspects are both reinforced and updated to meet new and current societal and political expectations. Theta Chi is committed to a policy of equal opportunity for all persons and does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, age, marital status, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, disability, religion, height, weight, or veteran status in its membership or activities unless permitted by university policy for gender specific organizations. Upon joining the organization, all members agree not to undermine the purpose or mission of Theta Chi.
