NOSAKHERE Statement of Professional Concerns/Aspirations if Elected: ALA is at critical period for growth and innovation to strengthen our commitment to the core mission of improving library and information services and librarianship to enhance learning and ensure access for all. In order to navigate the opportunities and challenges ahead we need a leader that will invest in the mission and the members. As President-Elect I would promote the core values and strategic directions that strengthen our profession and help realize our mission, focusing on our strategic directions; Leadership and Professional Development, Equity Diversity and Inclusion, Advocacy and information Policy. I will focus on opportunities for professional development making ALA conference accessible, meaningful and significant to all so all members will have the opportunity to network and grow professionally with innovative and relevant content. I will make EDI a priority and advocate for social justice as we discuss and challenge important issues that are against our core values and adversely affect our professional and personal lives and the communities we serve. I would be a loud voice advocating for all librarians and the institutions they serve. Even more I would be a champion for members to advocate for issues in the communities they serve to improve and enhance learning and access for all. I will continue to support and advance intellectual freedom and privacy, understanding that both are essential to the exercise of free speech, free thought, and free association. My experience as a ALA Councilor and Past Executive Board member will help advance our conversation about ALA governance and fiscal challenges and opportunities. I will lead our association in the investment in growing our members, not just librarians but also all who believe that libraries transform lives by investing in mission and members. KDL E- book circulation went up over 1586% over 4 years. Enabled no-cost healthcare for part-time employees. Began partnerships and programs to champion 3 rd grade reading initiatives to help Kent County children. Convinced the local TEA Party groups to assist KDL with its millage election for an increase. We won a 45% tax increase by the widest margin ever. Started the WriteMichigan Short Story Contest where the winners get published and there is a juried and popular vote vetting process, which was the first contest of its kind nationally. Through my position on both the Michigan Library Association Legislative Board and State Bar of Michigan Committee on Libraries, I ve had the opportunity to fight for state funding for libraries, assist in the writing of legislation to protect libraries right to distribute information on ballot proposals leading up to elections and help craft bills designed to protect libraries from losing budget monies to tax captures. Having found success fighting for libraries on a local and state level, I m eager to be a mentor and champion for library systems nationwide. I ve always believed that the success of one library depends on the success of all libraries. My ultimate personal goal is to ensure that success by acting as a legislative champion for the libraries, the people who work for them and the patrons they serve. The success of this depends on helping libraries to deliver exceptional value to tax payers and serving underserved audiences. During my 20 years as a librarian, I ve witnessed libraries help people to become the absolute best versions of themselves
