2 Preamble Alary Language sets out to contribute to the world s globalization process today by teaching basic and intermediate level languages to elementary and middle school students around the city of Berkeley. We hope to open students minds and help them make connections both to their families pasts through learning their family s traditional languages, and to the future world through learning a new language. At the same time, we hope to contribute to the growth of children from not just Berkeley but around the world, by donating part of the donations we will collect from lessons to the organization Compassion, which sponsors and helps children in developing countries. I. Group Name The name of our organization is Alary Language. Alary means wings in Latin; we hope that the languages we teach will provide a pair of wings for our students to fly around the world. II. Purpose The purpose of our organization is to tutor children in languages and inculcate in them an interest for the subject. Furthermore, a portion of our donations will go toward Compassion, an organization which helps children in poverty from around the world. III. Membership Members must be fluent in at least one language besides for English. They must be able to tutor effectively. Our students will be recognized as off-campus participants. Only currently registered students, faculty, and staff may be active members in a registered student organization. Only active members may vote or hold office. We will not haze according to California State Law. We will not restrict membership based upon race, color, national origin, religion, sex, gender identity, pregnancy (including pregnancy, childbirth, and medical conditions related to pregnancy or childbirth), physical or mental disability, medical condition (cancer related or genetic characteristics), ancestry, marital status, age, sexual orientation, citizenship, or service

3 in the uniformed services (including membership, application for membership, performance of service, application for service, or obligation for service in the uniformed services). IV. Officers and Elections Executive Committee: Co-President o Facilitate weekly lessons o Follow, defend, and execute the constitution o Coordinate meetings with clients o Communicate with parents and students when questions arise o Oversee other officers and ensure everything is on task Co-President o Facilitate weekly lessons o Follow, defend, and execute the constitution o Coordinate meetings with clients o Communicate with parents and students when questions arise o Oversee other officers and ensure everything is on task Other Positions: Vice President of Social Relations o Update social media (Facebook and Instagram) o Keep track of attendance record o Responsible for club advertisement Vice President of Finance o Lead fundraiser activities o Responsible for collecting, organizing, and keeping track of fees o Submit reimbursement requests to the Leader Center Vice President of External Affairs o Responsible for tabling and distributing flyers o Working with VP of Social Relations for club advertisement o Design and distribute club flyers Head Language Coordinator o Oversee all language instructors

4 o Review and approve/disapprove lesson plans o Hold meetings with all instructors once per month o Communicate frequently with the president and vice president o Expand the membership base Elections: Active members are responsible for electing new committee leaders (with the exception of the executive committee) once a year in September. Each member can cast one vote for each committee. With the exception of the executive committee, officers can serve for at most four semesters for each position. Among all officers, the president(s) is the primary contact The presidents, the vice-president, and the vice-president for external affairs are the organization s signatories. If officers sense that one or more of the other officers do not follow their responsibilities, voting can occur, vetoing any of the positions with at least 2/3 votes. V. Meetings Alary will meet once a week on Saturday, and the specific time will be at the discretion of both co-founders, who will take into considerations the schedule of all members. The co-founder and co-founder shall call the meetings. In order for the meeting to be valid, at least three people need to be at the meeting. Members have to notify either of the co-presidents at least three days ahead of time if they cannot be at the meeting. There may be calls for special emergency meetings. The necessity for the meetings shall be agreed upon by both of the co-founders/co-presidents. VI. Constitutional Amendments Any officers can propose an amendment. An officer can propose an amendment through an to either of the two co-presidents, specifying exactly that the member wishes for it to be an amendment. The co-presidents will then put it through a vote among the members. An amendment will need a 2/3 majority vote from your active membership to pass (amendments change the structure of the group and it is important to have 2/3 approval from the members at large so that there is strong agreement that the change should be made.)

5 All amendments, additions or deletions to this document must be filed with the LEAD Center in 432 Eshleman Hall. VII. Dissolution Dissolution will be decided through a vote among the officers. At least ¾ of the officers must vote for dissolution in order for the said action to occur. If the organization is ASUC or GA Sponsored, all unspent ASUC funds shall return to the ASUC; all Graduate Assembly funds shall return to the Graduate Assembly. If the organization is defunct for five (5) or more years, any privately obtained funds (including any funds left in miscellaneous accounts) shall be donated to the following nonprofit organization Compassion. In the event that the designated nonprofit organization no longer exists or has ceased to be a non-profit, then the unspent funds shall be donated to the ASUC.
