Andrew Jackson did not like the Bank of the United States and would not renew its charter. Gold or silver was the new way to pay for things. Banks soon ran out of gold & silver, leading to an economic crisis. South Carolina

13 did not like the new tariffs created to raise money for infrastructure. Th ey soon threatened secession, stating states rights as an argument. To oppose Andrew Jackson and his chosen candidate, Martin VanBuren, some National- Republicans created a new political party, the Whigs.
